Alex O’Loughlin is a crime fighting a.smashing transplantologist.
Oh, wait. No he’s not.
Hence why I passed out every time I tried to watch the pilot episode.
But YOU love it. So enjoy it. Have fun chatting.

All I know is he can play doctor with me anytime anywhere! He looks hot in white coat and scrubs.
Sure it sucked at the time, but in retrospect, so glad this show got the can. I do remember watching the first episode — I have family in Pittsburgh, PA and I wanted to see how the city looked on the TV machine. All I remember was that it was painfully, earnestly serious (almost laughably so) and after that first ep it got jerked around on the schedule, I never caught another ep, and then it got canceled. I don’t even think I remembered there was a hot doctor on the damn program.
The end!
Sunday 10pm is the kiss of death for a new show that hasnt found an audience yet. My brother told me to watch it because he thought I’d like it but I never did. Sorry Alex – I didn’t know of your awesomeness then.
The pilot epi tried too hard to stress the importance of what they do. So much so it is one of my least fave eps of the series. I don’t blame anyone for watching & not coming back. But it really did find its way for the most part. I still think it would have been better as a grittier, less high tech show.
Overall the stories got better and a few season long archs were very good about Scott, Quol and Andy’s past (who’s uncle was played by….drum roll please….Poppa McG!)
Alex was the most gorgeous i think he has ever been. He really got to showcase some fine acting. Alfre Woodard is a class act and I will watch her act anything! Daniel Henney annoyed me at first but won me over. He has a beautiful, endearing episode towards the end. Amber Clayton was very good as well. It was interesting to see her play opposite Alex as his fans probably know they dated for a few yrs. (she’s also Aussie)
I work for a multi-specialty medical organization who does non-profit work. Transplant is one of our specialties. we work with Donate Life. I will admit that I am probably biased because this show is ‘my world’ and I love seeing Alex in it.
That’s my long-winded overview. More episode specific to come.
are there episodes online anywhere? if you can say.
I view it on netflix streaming if you have an acct with them. If not you can view through VIPTV.net which is how M watches H50 and I think Amazon has it for download. I bought ML from them and it works great!
Yeah, at VIP tv, where I watch Hawaii 5-0 and where I watched Moony. Errr…Three Rivers was free.
I loved this show — and most medical stuff. Weren’t Trauma and Mercy on that season, too?
One of my favorite TR scenes is from near the end of episode 5 when Andy and his wife have their final break up conversation. I thought of it immediately after seeing the goodbye scene with Cath in H5-0 2.04.
The TR one is wonderful. I choke up every time I see it.
Now I’m off to see the tongue action that I somehow missed in the early episodes. And then I’ll check out The Shield again. (Sigh) I could watch AOL all afternoon and evening!
The Shield. All I can say is THE CHAIR!THE CHAIR my world for that chair! Tried it and not the same without AOL!
ESS, Glad to see somebody else thought, that this was Alex at his most gorgeous!!
AOL looked great in 3R (as in everything else) but Marcus is still my fave
[pls dont throw tomatoes @ me - i'm addicted to sardonic and is you ban me i'll die]
Alex as Marcus — very, very hot! (v v just doesn’t cut it in this case!)
But Dr. Andy vs McG? I guess it just depends what you want, emo connections or BAMF. Depends on my mood, but I don’t perv nearly as much on Dr. Andy!
Dr Andy vs McG? Thats slightly easier
McG! I have a soft spot for bad boys…
I’m not throwing any tomatoes, mate. Marcus and him going “baby girl” make Ess and I asdfghjkl ourselves out of existence.
Looks like you like the BAD boys…
That I def do
despite seeing the ad on the buses for few months before….
Marcus, Michael, Russell, Steve…. No wonder that all I could remember after watching BUP for the first (and second time) was JLo stuffing her face with bread (and strangely ECO)
I watched all episodes on net flix and I must admit I had to mute show at time and just watch the eye candy but that man sure puts the jelly in the jelly roll
Mute!! Ha ha ha ha!!!!
Thanks M for the TR page !
I also tried to watch this show when it was first on and was pretty unimpressed. I caught a few of the episodes along the way, although right now, I cannot remember any of them.
I’ve downloaded the shows on iTunes and I got through part of the first epi. I’ll be back to comment.
I confess I watched Greys at the time, and thought TR was a badly acted parallel to Greys. I remember thinking some of the story lines were the same as Greys and hated the Soap Opera side of TR wasn’t original. Another confession – I don’t mind some soapopery shows.
I do remember however, my fave character at the time was Quol !
With that said, I shall return !!
lb
Wait, you thought 3R was soap opery but liked Grey’s? One season of greys and I felt like I should as.mash myself for watching. But of course you all now know I was for real when i said I didn’t like angsty shows. A la the Lori/McG debacle.
Who knows i may have considered it boring at the time too. But it isn’t now! OK, pilot still is… true.story.
Most def. I don’t remember why though I remember NOT liking the Alfrie character, for some resson. Maybe i thought she was overacting ?
Let me refresh my memory be watching again and I’ll let you all know. AOL, was very handsome, not sure why I didn’t catch this at the time. I am LOVING his lower mellow voice, but I have been a sucker for his voice for a while. Mick voice was so hot for me
I watched the show only because of Alex. The story line wasn´t too bad, I kind of liked the little drama and I think the transplant story was new and interesting. Alex said in an interview that his caracter was so good and empathetic and different to his nature. It was funny to watch his uber-soft caracter, when you know his habit of swearing and sense of humour, and he didn´t get to show this side in 3R.
I like Alfre, as an actress, very much. Remember seeing her in some tv drama much younger, and was very impressed with her camera presence.
“Alex said in an interview that his caracter was so good and empathetic and different to his nature. ”
LOL Soooo does that mean Alex is an un-sympathetic meanie? I hope the rest of the interview provided a bit of context because I doubt he is an un-sympathetic d0uche lord.
“I watched the show only because of Alex.”
It would seem I did too as I can’t recall any other characters names on the show, so have renamed them all to names I’ll remember, blonde admin guy, annoying emo chick, hopeless/confused ex wife etc etc
If he is an unsympathetic d0uchlord, ALL THE BETTER!!!! I imagine sitting with him and making fun of passers by, and I laugh. Because I am stupid.
Can I join? Then you and AOL can see my judging face.
LOL! Yes. But you must give us scores on large cards.
oh no divided loyalties! How can I chose between M and AOL? 10s every time.
In an interview I read he said he learned that Dr’s had to love the unlovable and that aspect was hard for him to comprehend.
Ess, ah ok that makes a bit more sense. Because Andy really did love just about everyone. Actually, those of you currently watching, is there an episode where Andy doesn’t really like a patient (unloveable) but puts his personal issues aside and still treats them???
Not sure but I’ll keep an eye out….you know. For research.
It’s only proper.
Yeah I noticed my slip up
Maybe his caracter in the show was too angelic? in contrast to the “bad-boy” he really is! Can´t remember where that interview is.
I think the s*xing scene with Amber was weird? to watch, knowing he had a real love interest in her. That undressing moment was packed with heat! (If I remember correctly)
What I loved most about his character was how he fought for all his patients.
(spoiler warning for those who haven’t seen?????)
I agree with you Paula, the s*ing scene with Amber was weird and for me, totally ruined the closing stages of that episode. It was made even more weird by them only ever only going on one almost date and then never really discussing it. I get the show got cancelled and they would have developed the storyline, but it just ended up being a bit too odd and random for me.
I read this: “What I loved most about his character was how he fought for all his PANTIES.” and was nodding with agreement, until I re-read.
“he fought for all his PANTIES.”
M you are too funny, as if I, Innocent Infant Sardonic would ever say something like that…..*coughs*
Alrighty I am all done. And I vow this to be the last thing I watch just because AOL is in it…..
While not the greatest show I have ever watched, it end up being kind of ok. I found most of the other characters unrelatable but looking back we found out very little of the other characters back stories so that is probably part of it. Also, Miranda was just plain annoying and despite my Jedi mind powers a hair tie did not miraculously appear around her hair. She was so emo and without ever really finding out much about her it just made her a difficult character for me to connect with.
I feel the episode with the doctor assisted suicide debate to be the shows strongest episode and will be the one that sticks with me long after I’ve forgotten all other eps (so knowing me and my memory about this time next week).
I appreciate what the show tried to do on a larger scale, which is teach people about organ donation. I think it was Ess who said that the year this show was on organ donation registrations went up in the US, which while I guess the show might not have been completely responsible for, if it got people talking then the show has achieved a pretty fantastic thing and on some level all people involved in the show should be proud of that fact.
I had an overwhelming urge to buy everyone on SHOW a hairnet.
Ok, I made it through quite a few episodes now. When it comes to hotness vs plotness. Hotness wins out.
I really like Andy and I love Kuol ! I love the on screen dynamics with these two almost as much as McG and Danno. And Mick and Josev (?)
I see many of Andy’s mannerisms and comments that I see in McG, so AOL rocks this character. I see some eyes.xing going on and heard ‘Watch This’ to Kuol as they played Guitar Hero same as he said ‘Watch this’ to Danny in the Pizza Box iodine scene in H50.
Btw, the Guitar Hero scene ! Ummmm, McBulge in PJ bottoms and robe ensemble in the bed ?? Replayed that one a few times.
Most EPIC Kuol line: Dr Yablonski, may the Rock Gods soothe your troubled soul !!
Normally I like Alfre Woodard, but I stay firm in my initial comment, I think she was overacting with this character She is so breathy, if that makes sense, same as i feel most Soap Opera actresses are.. I have absolutely no feelings for Dr Jordan, but not as much as I could careless about Miranda.
IMO, they could have dropped those two in any of the 3rivers LITERALLY and I would have cheered.
Miranda’s character seemed so bored to be there and had such an holier than thou attitude, I wanted to b.tch slap her into next week.
Epi 1. The metal eating kid, was a very interesting storyline, but her delivery and attitude towards the dad….. SLAP !
The worst for me was the epi where it was revealed Sophia was in love with Miranda’s father. THAT was taken directly from Greys which I was watching at the time! That is when I thought, 3R character development was borrowed from Greys. Not Cool !
I also liked Pam a lot, I wished she would have had more screen time ! I liked David and Ryan and even liked Andy’s wife. Pretty ! She could pull off Lori Weston !
I did not care too much for the blonde, her and Miranda with their FKN hair in the eyes ! Shouldn’t healthcare providers have their hair pulled back, same as folks who handle food ?
Ohhhh ! I think Mandy Patinkin ROCKED his episode ! Wow, he and Andy and Kuol all had good on screen chemistry together !
Sorry I am all over the board with the episodes and my thoughts. I haven’t finished watching the series yet.
Know what you mean. Would hate to have Miranda as my Dr. mad and messy. Blonde girl just looked good when making eyes at Andy. Andy and Kuol were alot like Steve and Danny. BTW just finished watching again myself.
Except Kuol never whined and ranted. True.story.
I did a few reruns of the McBulge scene, myself.
I’m surprised that the AOL/Chuck Liddell picture from an upcoming episode of H5-0 hasn’t garnered more comments (re: bulge). Or did I just miss them somewhere along the way?
Where?! I shall watch this moment for the McBulge alone.
Or mayhaps Ess can make it a photo on her tumbler?
I think I have to change my name “Officially to McNerd challenged”. If someone explains to me how to attach a file to a comment, I can send the picture.
Honesty, I don’t now if a single screen shot would do justice, it needs to be a minute video capture. Lying in bed, music soars, Andy rolls, smashes is head ( err, head on his shoulders) into headboard , legs bent and splayed…… But then, my imagination may have gotten the better of me.
I will search for video.
I will try to find it! Anything for the McBulge…
Hi Karin,
Maha does not like SPOILERY info because she recaps in real time. Her recap is when we FUCUP’s unleash the madness here on here on Sardonic.
M, the McBulge occurs near the end of 3R episode 7
Thanks, Laurie! Yes, please…before any spoileries, please place SPOILERS and then I stop reading
No biggie if you forget, as I am usually quick enough to catch on that it’s a spoiler. Usually.
I posted that pic somewhere and said something about the FOY wanting to come out and play (I did notice the bulge), no-one took the bait!?
Sorry, Paula. I either missed your post or was brain dead that day. Quite a lovely pic though.
(Or maybe I was too new to the site and not comfortable commenting, yet. Now you can’t shut me up!)
“I see many of Andy’s mannerisms and comments that I see in McG…”
Didn’t he also say “Watch this” to the tour guide sailor in the Seal hostage episode when he was getting a fingerprint off the knife with face powder?
Karin, Yes, yes, you are correct ! I thought I heard ‘Watch this’. a few times !
LB, I agree with the comment about Grey’s because on more than one occassion it felt very Grey’s Anatomy to me. When you think about it the whole “angsty daughter of an amazing doctor” IS the storyline from Grey’s. That made me like Miranda’s character even less, which is probably not possible since I couldn’t stand her (is hating her with the fire of a thousand suns too much???).
I think I’ve mentioned before I want to throw a hair tie at her. I mean I wear my hair down and curly and all over the place but I don’t save peoples lives for a living nor have a hair and make up team who help me get ready in the morning…so yes, what is up with her hair?
Ess told me that all the actors in the show were recast to the version we see, with the exception AOL, how much of that had to do with the characters being not all together interesting (as opposed to poor acting), will never know as really, other than Dr Andy and Paula I didn’t really care about anyone else in the show. Oh wait, Kuol!!! He totally owned his scenes. and yes, he and Andy had a great chemistry.
The Mandy Patinkin episode, I think, was the shows best and wish they had more episodes like that…or maybe not….because then I would have ended up crying and Sheila would have pointed and laughed.
Oh Gracie – (is hating her with the fire of a thousand suns too much???). Ahhhhh, nope, I AM AGREEING IN ALL CAPS WITH YOU.
I found th YT clip of McBulge and Kuol at the end of said Episode and emailed the link to M, to post here, because I am a moron and am afraid to embed video instead of the link.
I am hoping this works … here it is, one of my fave scenes between DrMcHotness and Kuol !!
haha whenever I see someone playing guitar hero all I think of is my friends and I playing, and then my friend Melinda, who always plays drums and then eventually starts yelling “pause it! pause it! I need to blink!” (the assumption is here she’s concentrating so much on the floating coloured things she forgets to blink.)
Anywho, in this scene I also thought my entire apartment could fit into that bedroom….and then FINALLY I was like oh, hi PJs.
I love your friend! I usually rock out on the drums too when playing music games.
That’s funny, cuz i always looked at Grey’s as a rip off of ER but instead of compelling stories, it was about who was sleeping with who. Granted I watched season 2 and I was ready to jack slap.the.SH.T out of McDreamy and skinny chick. WhateverTF her name was.
I guess there are so few medical shows on TV that they all invariably get compared to each other.
You are most likely correct, but I never watched ER. I really liked Greys, not for the in depth medical stuff.
Skinny chick you hated ( Grey), was similar to EMO Miranda but more likeable, to me anyways.
ER! Dr Carter! He was my fav character. And yes hardy har I know what ER is and yes I know George Clooney used to be in it with that chick from that show the Good Wife. I am sure there is a lurking lurk who lurks out there younger than me
also skinny emo annoying chick from Grey’s is Meredith Grey…..any one else need me to pass along useless tv info to them???
lb523 & GLBali, I totally agree with you on Epi 7, with Mandy Patinkin in it. I can pretty much handle anything they can dish up on medical shows, but this one still haunts me some days. Mandy did a fantasic job and like you said totally Rocked it! (and Alex too a always)
PS. Did some of you change names since these post (Buttercup and Infant)? You are confussing my already overextended brain (LOL). Think I’ll start a flowchart to keep track!
FOYeur, I did change names because I liked my nick name better. As my real name is so short, I don’t often get a nickname so I was so excited I changed it lol. Now I think generally, whenever one of us gets a nickname we change it. Which you’re right, can get real confusing. I’ve kept my avatar the same though, because I am too lazy to change it and well the tape over the mouth is kind of ironic since I’m always talking.
3R did have it’s moments for sure. In fact just last weekend I was talking about organ donation with some people and used some things I learnt from show during our discussion.
Hi FOYeur .. Yea, I was Stalker ! For awhile and I use to be ‘a chair’. Hahaha … Sometimes WordPress has the last laugh with me, by kicking me back to lb…..
Welcome ! 👋✋👋✋👋✋
I’m watching this show Homeland, Mandy Patinkin is in it.
Hi lb523,
I was referring to a promo still of Alex and Liddell with their arms around each other. It’s not a shot from the episode so I don’t think spoilery would be an issue.
I just think it’s a better McBulge shot than the one in the 3R episode — although as I mentioned in a previous post, I did spend some time rewinding there to review (and review, and review).
Hey, I may be wrong but I think the 3R McBulge scene is at the end of Episode 5 — titled Alone Together.
Karin, I’m sorry, I misread what you wrote about the pix, I will go look for it again and examine ! I am sure you are right …. But in my minds eye, Dr Andy in bed with pj bottoms……
Ummm, what were we talking about ?
You do have a point re: pajama bottoms and bed. However I think the shirtless chest above the poking FOY is right up there! Can we call it a tie?
Awwwww Maaaaate — tis not a competition, let’s chalk it up to personal preference !!
I always love me some sweaty McG though !!
shirtless AOL with a bulge? I call that a win/win sitch.
Uhhhhh, don’t get that excited, robe on, but opened.
I posted the video below or above somewhere.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? WHERE. Is. THIS. PHOTO??????????
I have the photo saved but don’t know how to attach it to a comment.
I am definitely changing my name to McNerd challenged!
I think the winning scene with the BULGING FOY is in the Oyster Farmer =wound nursing! I WIN, YES?
Yes, that’s definitely the winner — but, skeptic that I am, I always wondered if that was a body double since the above waist shot is always separate from the below waist shot. There is not a full facing forward body shot if I’m remembering correctly. I’d like to believe, but always that little twinge of doubt. My saving grace here is that maybe it was a low budget film and they couldn’t afford a body double!
Maybe it is a body double as the actual FOY was too big for the camera shot!
I thought there was a facing foward body shot? I must check…for research purposes. Obvi.
But those look like his thighs. rawrr..
Paula wins!
PAULA: I’m with you. The best FOY sighting was in TOF. Hands down. Best Ever!
KARIN: That was no double. It was all AOL. Trust me, but don’t ask me how I know. I just know. McMo
Ok I’ve watched Episode 1-3, pilot was indeed kind of a snoozer. The pica thing was interesting. I actually looked it up. That’s some psychological stuff right there! Anyone who works in medical had a great belly laugh off the “EMR, the bain of our existence” and “Remember, computer enemy, Andy..friend” I wanted to hug him hard…with.my.thighs.
At the end of the 2nd episode when they were on the roof (who was he with? don’t remember…don’t care) and he said “we’re gonna work it out”…asdfasdl;fkjasdlfkjadss;lfkjasd;lfk I lost a few brain cells..seriously. His wife was a lesbian. (no h8!)
I think it was the blonde chick on the roof with him. Every time they went outside I was like ohhhh Chicago looks cold…oh now there is snow….does not compute, danger Will Robinson! Give me summer and sunshine and hot weather any day.
Got another thought. Did you notice epi 2 is when get introduced the the Ryan guy, even though we already met him in epi 1. What’s up that ?
Another thing, and Ess, please correct me if I’m wrong, But Andy was Cardio Thoracic Surgeaon, something like that, right ? Then why did he deliver a baby in episode 1 ??
Wasn’t that him, giving preggers heart patient a C-section ?? WhytheF no Ob/Gyn on staff, seriously ? Unless it was him, but he had his blue glo-stick wrap around head light on.
all that aside, he play the Sh.t out of the doc. Me likely !
LB, yes I did notice he got introduced twice. It was very confusing and makes me think CBS mucked around with the shows order and air time (like whatever channel aired Firefly) which confuses viewers, so that wouldn’t have helped ratings.
I have no idea what Andy is a Dr in….other than everything because it felt like he did every surgery.
“his blue glo-stick wrap around head light on.”
I would like to call them this from now on. Can I steal?
Ummm Gracie, no stealing needed. As FUCUPS I thought we shared everything ?
I think as we all descend into the cavernous impression of the FOY we all need to be fitted with the blue glo stick wraparound head gear.
I did notice the awkward into of Andy. But I think it’s because he was only an assistant in the pilot and only interacted with a few of them. In epi 2 he had to take the place of the person who had just quit. Remember he had no medical experience?
Yes, Andy was a cardiothoracic surgeon. Ok, I’ll McNerd…. if this was a true transplant hospital (and I think they said it was) they wouldn’t have an OB/GYN on staff so any surgeon would more than likely do the C-section given the emergent situation. Even if it wasn’t only transplant, not all hospitals have OB’s on staff.
Alex played the sh.t out of Dr. Andy. ALL CAPS AGREEING!! I have a very soft spot in my heart and warm spot in my panties for Dr. Andy.
I meant awkward intro of Ryan. pffftt..Andy on the brain.
Hey, if you have Andy on the brain that can only be a good thing it shows you have great taste in men!
Excellent McNerding Ess, makes sense now.
Ok, I watched a few more episodes.
Episode 5 with the gay theater guy who was hating on hot Dr. Lee because he was asian. This is the episode where Alex talked about doctors have to love the unlovable. Such a great story. Too bad they all don’t turn out so well, but i thought this was a brave story. As someone who works in medical it is sometimes very hard to be empathetic to certain people. Not due to race for me, but if they’re a pr*ck it’s harder to love them. That may be true in every day life but in the medical scenario, you have to TREAT these people. You have to try a little harder, for sure.
I think I started to really appreciate Dr. Lee here. Daniel Henney was terrific!!
Ess, thank you for providing context for me with that unlovable quote. Now that I have it context, I say, I agree and get what you are saying.
This and the episode with the Korean girl are the ones that stand out for me for Dr Lee. He was one of the very few characters on this show I could tolerate.
Episode 6 about the kid hurt at the fair. There is a scene where they are taking the kid for a CT scan and he starts bleeding and Andy yanks him off the table and carries him out. ADFASDFAJSDLFKADFLDFADFADFDF!!! Alex + kids = panty destruction
Amber Clayton killed in this episode. I was very moved by her performance.
This is also where we really hear Kuol’s tragic story and when Andy & Dr. Lee fight to get him the VAD. I think I fell in love with all three men in this episode.
Why is it with Andy/Steve and scenes with kids? Why do they make us ASDFGHJKLKJGHFDSDGHJDKJHGLKFF so bad?
Kuol, what a fantastic character he was. I loved all the scenes he was in. If they had more storylines and actors with skills like this the show would have survived a lot longer me thinks. But on the other hand I would have ended up an emo blubbering mess so maybe it’s better that this and the episode with Mandy Patinkin were in the minority.
Episode 8 where the rich woman needs a transplant and her husband buys her one from the black market. This was a very powerful episode to me. Truly made you think. what would you do for a loved one if money was no object and they were dying? Principles and morals may change when your life is on the line. Or will they?
I loved how this show may have glossed a few things over in the effort to not totally depress us but it really brought up some interesting and thoughtful subjects.
So the other day at work I was reading a medical chart and I swear it was right out of Three Rivers! This girl had a baby, 2 days later was admitted because she had trouble breathing, had several cardiac procedures and ended up needing a heart transplant! It’s a very rare condition where the mother develops, crap I forget the name of it, but it basically kills the heart tissue. They develop this in the last couple weeks of pregnancy through the first 3 post-partum months. CRAZINESS! She was perfectly healthy!! I was reading this and thinking of Dr. Andy saving her. *hee*
FYI – took her 7 weeks to get a heart. (thanks Donate Life)
OH! and then I’m telling my boss about this chart, because really its the most interesting medical story i’ve ever read and I say it’s just like an episode of Three Rivers and she goes, “Oh I LOVED that show!” I go WTF?? You realize that is the same guy that’s in H50 right? (Been trying to get her to watch H50 but she watches that other show on Monday night that shall not be named…)
Dude, I totes need to work on her more.
Love this but all I could think of was breath Ess breath. It was sounding like you were out of breath. Maybe I have had to much Cupcake Vodka, because when I read that shall not be named all I could think of was Voldermort. WJ
Email her the link to your tumblr…if that doesnt do it, there’s no hope for her.
RIGHT??!!!
Hey Ess – sounds like you were doing a 3R marathon tonight! I just finished rewatching all the AOL episodes of The Shield about a half hour ago. The CHAIR received a good deal of extra attention. Just get calmed down and then start reading here and it starts all over again with all the discussion of the bum.
It’s such a comfort to know there is plenty of AOL work and discussion to keep us occupied between H50 episodes.
Actually, to show the level of my McNerdiness, I watched these episodes a few weeks ago..but I took notes. *blushes* I finally just got around to putting them on here. Grace has been waiting on me to add more notes. Still have 9-13 to go.
One time through The Shield was enough for me. Grace loved it. I loved Alex of course, but hated the show. The characters have to have some redeeming quality to me and i just never found any. Kevin started out ok but they managed to suck him dry too. The chair scene was hot. True.story.
I’m just about to start season 5 of the Shield. I hate Shane. I wish Kevin had shot him before he left the Strike Team. The chair scene creeped the heck out of me. When I rewatch season 6 I will be skipping it because it was just weird when viewed in the context of the episode.
Ok firstly, hearing stories like that freaks me out. Thankfully (cheers to Donate Life and all involved in her surgery etc) it all worked out for this lady and her family.
I love it when you randomly come across fellow fans of a show. What would you have done if she went, “Three Rivers? What’s that?”
Ugh pfft stop watching that show with that guy from Firefly lady and watch h50. It’s so much better.
“It’s such a comfort to know there is plenty of AOL work and discussion to keep us occupied between H50 episodes” – What I would really love to discuss is his episode of Criminal Minds! Love, love, love that episode!!
What about episode 7???
I have to be in the right mood for episode 7 of Three Rivers. Too powerful. Too close to home for me. I will watch soon and McNerd. But i had to skip it for now.
sing out before you do, I’ll rewatch it too. Best ep of the show by far.
I saw a little bit of the Criminal Minds episode on YouTube. He was creepy! When this Fkn koala of an Internet gets hooked up again, I’m going to watch it all. It’s just not the same on the phone.
Criminal Minds ep…..warning. You may not want to eat toast in the morning after seeing the CM ep…I know I didn’t want toast or bread the next day.
I guess toast and Vegemite wont be on the breakfast menu in the Westy house then?
The bread thing never bothered me. wierd, but that’s about it.
Hey! I just found out there was a page for this discussion! I have moved over there and McNerded there. Westy, plenty of spoilers though.
It wasn’t on my breakfast menu and Vegemite on toast is ALWAYS on my breakfast menu.
I signed up for the free trial month on Netflix for completely different reasons, but decided to see if Three Rivers was available. It is. I just watch the first 1:30 of the pilot ep. AOL in a lab coat acting all doctorish and having shed the Mooney Meat. I might be in a heap of trouble. I haven’t read many of the above comments, so I’m going in clean. Heaven help me. I’m going to leave a trail of breadcrumbs in case I get lost.
I like that you were 1:30 in and already had to come and comment.
Show itself (other characters) may not be great, but Dr Andy and message of show are awesome.
Kimmer and I are doing a rewatch of this show as soon as we get through with Moonlight. I think Grace is joining in. I just can’t work a third one in on top of Ml &h50. So i can join you in a week or two.
Don’t judge the entire series on the pilot. They did not do a good job with the pilot. The show gets better and by episode 8 I was ready to kick the CBS koalas in their pants again.
Its not fast paced like ER (like a real ER would be) and it not about who is fking who like Greys is. Its a ow all its own. Its not meant to be fast paced, its truly about telling both sides of the story in these tragic and inspiring lives. Its often quiet and insightful. I don’t think that’s many peoples type of show, so its that and a Sunday night time slot that often involved delays & reschedules due to football is a good portion of why show did not survive.
I really enjoyed watching Alex really acting instead of having to be all physical on a role. He got to be a different kind of hero and my panties loved it.
It was an impulse watch, but I can’t invest in it right now either. I’ll join you both in the rewatch.
Well said, ESS!
Thanks.
I’m rewatching with y’all.
I may be persuaded to watch too. I only ever saw the first ep before those koalas at channel ten pulled it. Or moved it to late night before they pulled it. Or whatever they fkn did, as usual. I really like medical shows (Grey’s being the exception) and with my recent experience with the subject matter, may have to watch if it’s not too much for me. Lemme know when you’re all watching!
Yay! would love for you to watch with us. Hopefully it won’t be too much for you and you can appreciate it by way of your own personal experience and that being a positive thing instead of a sad thing. *big hugsie to you*
Also, you didn’t like Greys? *fist bump*
All this convo about Three Rivers and I’ve decided I have to rewatch, too. I’m through the 1st 2 episodes.
I loved this show when it was on and the first time I rewatched last summer. Even though I have since seen almost everything he’s done I think 3R may have been the first time I saw AOL. Didn’t even know his name then, only that he was achingly handsome.
This time through, I’m noticing in the scenes when he’s walking away he kind of has the McG swagger. But we know what causes that, don’t we!
I’m ready when y’all are. =)
Made my son cough up Netflix tonight and start TR for me so I just watched ep1. Doc Andy is looking super handsome indeed. Loving the softness in the character and expressions. I’m not opposed to McG’s a.ssmashing but this was good. Not the show, just him. Like Ess said, thought it was overly serious on the topic and I don’t even know who the other characters are yet and don’t care to learn, but I’ll watch a few more if I get the chance. Alfre Woodard was okay, and Asian doc was hot. I learned all my medical knowledge from years of ER (always order a chem panel or is it a chem 7? and a tox screen). and I avoid Grey’s after seeing a few early on. I’m not opposed to evening soap operas (Knots Landing anyone?) but just don’t like any of the characters. Too whiny.
spursy – as StephJane can attest Yablonski is a good Pittsburgh name. Lots of really interesting, colorful names in that area. The thing I noticed the most is there were many super close ups of Dr Andy’s face – so that could be why I don’t know who any other character is – I really was not looking.
He can snap those latex gloves at me any time! And if we watch H50 long enought McG will probably deliver a baby there, too. (unless he already did and i missed it)
If you’re going to keep watching Ess and I are planning on rewatching soon. I am sure others will join in. You can join in too. Otherwise my comments will be, I forgot what happened in that episode, but glad you liked it, There was a reason I started writing notes for Moonlight.
The pilot, look it isn’t great and you’ll eventually come across an episode that looks like it should have been the pilot in that it’s a random storyline, a different set and the characters dress differently. But there are enough moments of brilliance that I’ll rewatch it with Ess and co.
Just so I can keep my schedule straight … is the TR rewatch going to be before or after ML group rewatch? Or in conjunction with?
Is it possible to od on … nevermind, dumb question!! We’ll never get enough!
Karin- I did not find myself thinking “Oh, this is too much AOL” last night. PS (I owe you an email)
I think TR is before ML rewatch.
At least it is in mine and Ess’ world.
I will be home recouperating for a month or so and Kimmer will be free to do rewatch starting next week I think. So maybe we could start next week? Only 1 more h50 epi until a few repeats (boo) so it would be good timing to start late next week. Sound good?
Yes, yes, yes! I wanna play!
Count me in — even though I’ve probably seen it a half dozen times (including original showings on CBS). Always, always worth a rewatch.
ESS, hope everything goes well. We’ll be thinking about you.
I’m IN I’m IN! Already working on my Dr Andy stick figure! At least I have been for the last 10 seconds. In my head.
Stick Andy! That can be so fun! So many fun accessories. Heh.
Did you see Westys pic for me earlier today? It was so epic! PS…Dr. Andy I’m still waiting…..
Maybe westy will repost here for u all. She’s so amazing!
Of course I will! I’m on my phone so not sure this will work…
http://westy5oh.wordpress.com/2012/02/21/good-luck-ess/
I just looked at this again and fell in love all over again. LOVE YOU WESTY!!
Can I join in ur three rivers reindeer games? Pretty please?
Yay for all the players! Though it will have a very diff feel from Moonlight lol.
FYI – I hope I don’t come to tomorrow & call him Dr. Andy because he’s tall, dark, wavy hair w chest hair peeking out his scrubs and has Dr. Andy’s bed side manner. I am not crushing on him but really love his attitude towards patients which is one of things I loved Dr. Andy for (and u will too). Oh yeah..and he’s v affectionate but not in a creepy kind of way. His last words to me? “Don’t worry…*I’ve* got you now..” OK, Dr Andy…
I’m in Canberra next week for work until my Thursday night but by all means start watching and I’ll catch up.
I’ll try to see when you re-watch and join in, but TV watching is random and infrequent for me. (except Monday nights at 10 when I send not McG to bed and take his viewing spot to watch H50) I just randomly made my son set it up for me last night, I don’t know how to get the PS4 set up and use the controllers to find what I want through Netflix , plus the menfolk are always on it anyway. I figured out how to YouTube ML and think I’ll watch the next couple eps tonight.
Epi 1 reply to CVC (spoilers)
Dr. Andy “Loving the softness in the character and expressions.” – YES THIS!! it’s a very welcome change and a side of him we haven’t seen in any other roles yet. At least not to this degree.
Greys’ characters being too whiny” GOD YES!! That is probaly it!! I HATE whiny!!
“always order a chem panel or is it a chem 7″ – they’re the same thing
“there were many super close ups of Dr Andy’s face” – and every one of them better than the last… Life Ruiner
“if we watch H50 long enought McG will probably deliver a baby there, too” – i can’t WAIT for that to happen!!
Just finished the pilot ep and my initial thoughts are:
- The magic glass wall is very cool. AOL was able to get some practice for the magic table on 5-0.
- The wedding band is freaking me out.
- Don’t know any of the actors except for Alfre Woodard. Love her! The asian guy is kinda hot. The blond doctor in the beginning annoyed me. She was only at the beginning of the episode, so maybe she isn’t in the show much. Why did they make the brunette doctor (miranda?) so frumpy?
- Yablonski? Why did they pick that name?!
- Considering that we saw chest hair peaking out of Mick’s shirts on ML, I find the lack of chest hair peaking out from the scrubs disturbing.
- After watching ER and Grey’s, all of these doctor shows tend to look alike. Except for shows like MASH and Combat Hospital.
- The segment transitions are totally lame and make me laugh.
- I can see why is show didn’t survive, but I’ll watch the whole season.
- It’s weird watching AOL in touchy/feely mode for most of the show. My panties didn’t really notice that I was watching him. That being said, the softness of his expressions does make me smile.
I kinda liked this show, and since it´t now been shown here on tv I can finally watch it with finnish subtitles. The medical lingo was a struggle on previous watch online.
Dr Andy sure is different from McG. I like him showing this caring side. Also thought this hospital drama was different from others and refreshing as such.
That asian guy did spark my interest too
Hi Paula, Interesting that they broadcast a canceled show in you country.
The Asian guy is kind of nice. They were all different to characters in other medical shows I’ve seen. They only should have done a better job with “introducing” them, like they did in the pilot of H5-0. A good foundation can let you forget a lot of wrong stuff later on.
It happens here all the time! Even Moonlight was aired when already cancelled.
Was reading the above comments on 3Rivers, and thankgod I did. The bulge comments, made me think that scene has not properly been screencapped (to my knowledge) and should look into making a gif of it. I know what I´m doin 2nite when get off work
“They only should have done a better job with “introducing” them” – This was one of the major flaws in show. I think they tried so hard to keep the medical aspect to the forefront that they took too long developing the characters, besides Andy.
That hot asian guy is Daniel Henney. He’s on my tumblr watch list. I check him out but rarely reblog him for some reason. He had a bit part in Wolverine with Hugh Jackman. The man is ridiculously hot. Ridiculously. They take awhile to develop his character (like they did with most of them, unfortunately) but I really, really liked him as the show went on. Truthfully he would have been my first choice to play Adam Noshimuri.
http://h50bamf.tumblr.com/post/15921704915/handsome-man-is-handsome-truth-why-have-i-not
I think Ian Anthony Dale (Adam) is also a hot – have you seen his shirtless pic’s? On the other hand Daniel (Agent Zero) has this handsome ‘naughty’ and ‘wild’ look to him, that I also like more! Maybe @plenkov can find a little spot for him on the show (hopefully re-occuring)
“thought this hospital drama was different from others and refreshing as such” – agreed. at least it had a message behind it. A good message!
reply to Spurschick epi 1 (spoilers)
` -The majic wall is v v cool!! i think this hospital was a little too high tech which kind of takes me out of it a bit. hospital needed to be a little more down to earth.
` The wedding band is jewelry and I LOOOVE any and all jewelry on him. Truth.
` Alfre woodard can do no wrong in my book. None!
` Really you didn’t notice the chest hair? My first 3 notes on epi 2 is all about the chest hair! LOL! do you watch in HD because the chest hair is waving ‘hi’ to me every single time he has on the scrubs and it is VERRRYYY distracting. CHEST HAIR CALL ME!!
`i love touchy feeley alex. It proves he can do any type of role. My panties noticed with a vengeance. Everytime he lowers the voice and gets those expressions on his face, my panties weep.
I am watching 3R the cheap-o way on YouTube on my iphone. So here are things you don’t notice in teeny tiny low-def: chest hair, wedding rings, blah de blah de blah. So entirely non-sardonically: I am watching 3R for the plot.
I watched ep 1 last night and DMed Ess that I didn’t like any of the characters but Andy, who seemed nice enough, obviously. Alfre Woodard hadn’t done anything objectionable yet but I’ve read enough of the comments to know that won’t last long, and I did like Kurol (sp??) quite a bit. But the rest of the major characters can take a hike — especially Miranda (who for some reason last night I kept calling Audrey) but I think that’s a pretty universal opinion, reading the above comments.
But I just get strong soap drama vibes from this show, just didn’t love it.
I also
using a baby to create extra drama in the pilot episode.
My favorite performance was probably Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi, my fellow trekkies represent!!) as the wife of the brain-dead construction worker from Cleveland who ended up donating the heart. I found her performance very moving.
And I do like the way they are educating you about organ donation.
I’ve seen the entire series and my notes still say, ‘Miranda is annoying.’ ‘Going away Miranda.’ Soooorrryyy Ess.
“It’s weird watching AOL in touchy/feely mode for most of the show. ”
Alex is quite touchy feely in h50, but it’s generally not as obvious (i..e he doesn’t sit on peoples beds) but it’s there.
Ok, I will now mount my treadmill and watch Three Rivers for the very first time ever….EVER. Treadmilling only because I feel bad sitting in front of my monitor and watching TV and doing nothing else.
I hope you love it as much as a lot of us do. I just finished rewatching the whole series last week (for the 4th or 5th time).
I think we need a name for the 3R fans. We have TOFFEYs and MOONIEs. Suggestions, anybody?
BTW, I think I am finally starting to wrap my head around the whole AOL as a vampire thing and will probably start watching ML soon. Hope I can get past the long hair and what I imagine will look like plump in comparison to his current look.
The 3R fans are called FUC3RS, Karin. To keep with the theme
FUCUPS (no explanation needed)
FUCEMMS (FOY United Cuties Engaging in Moonlight Madness)
FUC3Rs
FUCEMMS aka MOONEYS! Of which I am now one. YEAHHHHH!
And TOFFY is simply “The Oyster Farmer, F— You!” Right? #guessing
Get outta my head, JK! (Seriously, I wish I’d thought of that…you are so clever and funneeeee!)
no seriously, what does it mean then?!?!
I’m an Aussie…we like to add ‘ie’ sound or ‘o’ to the end of words! Right GracIE?
Signed: WestY
You’re right there Westy. I’ve said it before, that h50 add when they went Kono, Chin Ho, Danno, Steveo? There is no question mark in the Aussie version as Steveo would totes be his name if we’re being real true blue Aussies. Steveo! Johnno! Jimmy and Jimbo (both for James), etc etc.
I always thought it was a play on ‘toffee’ – y’know, because it’s sweet and makes you want to… to…
(resistance is futile)
…suck on something for quite a long time.
No?
I just got Three Rivers on dvd from Amazon the other day. I was a big Moonlight fan. Truthfully I only watched 3 Rivers for Alex but I did like some of the episodes.
The irony that I decide to watch ep 2 and one of the patients needs a kidney transplant. Ha!
Anywho, here are my random thoughts on ep2 – Ryan’s First Day:
- Too bad nobody was around to tackle this punk leaving the scene of the wreck he caused. Loser.
- Damn. Deader than dead. With eyes open.
- Is this going to be the format of each ep? Someone gets killered before the opening credits and that’s our donor of the week?
- Andy’s a smart/ss. I can live with that.
- Wasn’t Ryan in the pilot? Am I completely confused?
- This might sound odd coming from a blonde, but I think I have a preference of brunettes for AOL. Or perhaps I’m just annoyed at the blonde er doc that he’s eyes/xing? Not sure what it is. She irks me.
- If I had an inhalers, I’d keep it v v close by and not buried in my purse.
- You hired Sponge Bob? LOL!
- Shout out to Primanti Brothers! Have only seen on Travel Channel, but I will one day go on a pilgrimage to that place.
- The chest hair should be listed in the opening credits. Squeee.
- Double lung transplant? Check please!
- Yep. I vote for the fuller face.
- Love Alfre Woodard, but her talents seems to be a bit wasted here.
- Well hi, Jeremy. You’re quite the hot son.
- I appreciate that Miranda isn’t girlie, but they def made her a bit over the top in the tomboy department. I hope that changes as the season goes on.
- I’d like to know how many actors enjoy playing doctors and reciting all at medical lingo.
- Too many screencap opportunites. Fckn L to the R. The dimple is killing me.
- San Antonio study? Holla!
- Sucks that hospital admins have to be more concerned with hospital stats than patients.
- The montage showing the connection between dead donor and patient… Velveeta.
- AOL’s contracts must guarantee rooftop scenes.
- Two eps in and no appearance by Mrs. Andy. Sounds like there are issues though. Does “working it out” include shirtlessness?
- Loved the donor mom meeting with the patient. That really is a bond for life.
reply to Spurschick epi 2 notes (spoilers)
` yes that is the format to each episode. the story of the donor (dead person) and the recipient (almost dead person)
` about Ryan’s intro – I read something recently on the show that said they did show the episodes out of order. In fact, epi 8 was the intended pilot episode. They did funky sh/t with this show.
` about the blonde..I liked them together as a couple and people have said she was very nice. so i automatically like her.
`NOW you see the chest hair! ok, whew. I thought you were blind…lol
`Too many screencap opportunites. Fckn L to the R. The dimple is killing me” – ACA2I&B!!!!
“- Sucks that hospital admins have to be more concerned with hospital stats than patients.” – ACA2I&B!!!
“- Loved the donor mom meeting with the patient. That really is a bond for life.” – i thought that was a nice touch especially considering the circumstances.
“about the blonde..I liked them together as a couple and people have said she was very nice. so i automatically like her.”
A couple where? They become a couple on the show?
“`NOW you see the chest hair! ok, whew. I thought you were blind…lol”
Still living in the dark ages with a non-HDTV. I know, I know… they’re cheap enough now that I should have one… but my other one won’t die!! It’s 20 years old and it won’t die!! It is so hard for me to justify buying a new one while this one is still kicking.
HOWEVER! Sure as sh/t, it’s gonna die on me in the middle of NBA playoffs or a kick*ss Walking Dead episode or… or…. gasp! It’s so hard for me to say out loud. It might die on me during a the season finale of… of… NO! I can’t say it!! The horror. The horror.
The blonde is Amber Clayton and they were a couple in real life for a few yrs. Till sometime early last year. Not sure if they dated while filming.
Oh hun. You may have to take control of the situation. Something may need to accidentally fly into your TV or it may somehow, very wierdly, fall off it’s perch. It happens….
“It’s 20 years old and it won’t die!! It is so hard for me to justify buying a new one while this one is still kicking” — that is exactly how I ended up with a microwave that weighs about 50 pounds with no turntable in it – d/mn thing goes for ever!
How can a network justify airing the episodes out of order and then expect the show to survive? I believe they did that with Firefly as well and everyone knows how that ended.
Hint…it also got cancelled.
CBS screwed the pooch with 3R. It never stood a chance.
Totally off point here but it’s not at all strange that as a blonde you prefer brown haired men – women have evolved to be attracted to men that have different looks from them – because that’s one indicator that you’re not too closely related genetically so your children will be healthy. (as a brunette myself, I think it’s no surprise to anyone here that I prefer blondes….) (on a certain fundamental level this is probably also why Gracie & Westy prefer his American accent while many of us North Americans like his natural speaking voice)
So Spursy if you ever get the chance to make a baby with AOL it’s not highly likely to be born with 11 toes or anything. Good news!
Um, I’m brunette with brown eyes and blonde, blue eyed men have zero appeal to me. 0/nada. i’m actually happy that Alex’s eyes are hazel and not true blue. (tho green would be a diff story…adsfjldfj;afld)
But then you all know I’m wierd. Carry on…
As you posted earlier tonight… it was the foreign accent that got you in the end.
#theoryholds #scienceisawesome #youarenotthatweird
One day last week I was looking at a number of pix of Alex and of course his eye color looks different depending on what he’s wearing, the lighting, etc. I came across one where his eyes looked exactly the same color as mine, which are hazel green. I actually got out a mirror and held it up next to the screen — his eyes and mine in a side by side comparison. Anyone watching would have thought I was crazy! But we all know our obsession with Alex makes us do strange things.
Also screwing with the theory is me, hazle eyes, dark brown hair, always loved the tall, dark and handsome.
The accent. Look if you heard some Aussies speak you wouldn’t love it. How Alex speaks and even how I speak is not really that rough ocker Aussie accent.
Is ocker a new word for y’all? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocker
Ooh – I learned a new word today -ocker – and the description is hilarious. I can see him sitting at a bar just like wikipedia says (if it is in wikipedia it must be true)
Well, Spursie, this week I got through Episode 5. This is my all time favorite, partly because of the great scene between liver transplant patient and the Asian doc (no good at remembering their names). ” You are a man of great substance and grace”. Love that line!
But mostly because of the scene outside near the end with Andy and Rena. When he says “I love you so much, Rena” my knees get weak and I’m not even standing up! And right after when Pam says she misses Rena and he responds he does, too and then gives that little smile that breaks my heart.
And of course, the final scene with Kuol — “I guess I don’t have a wife anymore” another line that squeezes my heart.
I’m not even mentioning the bulge scene since, what more is there to say about that?
The interesting thing, I’m finding is that other than this episode, none of the others (1-4) particularly stand out for me. I love watching Alex but the plots kind of all run together for me. On to 1.6 in the next few days.
This is my first time watching, so I don’t know these references that you speak of, but I look forward to catching up! Still only watched the first two eps, but I might indulge myself this evening.
I watched number 2 tonight. So, yes it seems like Ryan was in the pilot, yet here we are being introduced to him – strange. Enjoy Asian doc still, and the little Latina nurse who looks familiar but I can’t place her. Dr. Andy’s smile is a killer no matter what he plays, but I do like the character. Fights for his patients, saves lives, his biggest flaw that I could see was drinking that nasty Iron City Beer. And if you ever have I.C. light, well let’s just say…don’t. The constant showing of the hospitals in every city every time is too much – they could just run the city name across the bottom each time if they think we can’t keep it straight. For example, Boston, Portland, Pittsburgh – see how easy that is?
You mentioned AOL’s roof top scene – he must have resisted hanging the kid who needs a new heart over the edge to convince him to have the surgery. The kid def. flinched when Dr. Andy came at him, no wonder.
“and the little Latina nurse who looks familiar but I can’t place her.” I remember her from ER.
Thanks, that must be why she looks familiar – I always see her in scrubs!
Sorry I jumped so far ahead with my comments. I forgot you were a first timer. I will patiently wait for you and cvc-eve to catch up. Can I wait on the Recap ledge or do I need to find a 3R ledge?
You are up too late! You must also have no sense at all-like me. I think you’ll see familiar faces on whatever ledge you pick.
True that … about the ledges and the no sense!
There’s more than one ledge? I thought it was universal FUCUP ledge.
I’ve just watched the pilot, and starting to watch the second ep and I, too am totally confused about Ryan…whyTF is it as if he wasn’t in the pilot?? When TR first aired here, they only showed one ep before pulling it. When I was just watching the pilot, it didn’t seem familiar to me at all, however the second ep does. So it looks like they didn’t show the pilot here?
And I would just like to say, although I am a McG girl first, I am LOVING Dr. Andy. Going back now to finish ep 2.
Glad you like/LOVE Dr Andy too……without trying hard at all, he became my favourite. Some think he is boring, but to me he is just plain GORGEOUS!!
Gorgeous! ACA! I think he smiles a lot more in 3R than in 50. Of course he’s dealing with patients rather than baddies, but that smile — I turn to mush!
^^THIS^^
McG in thigh holsters and kevlar and a d/mn big gun is hot – Dr. Andy with a smile and a lab coat – either way we are the winners. Much as I am enjoying Moonlight, I don’t miss fangs and awful looking eyes in this show although TR and ML do share bloody scenes.
“although I am a McG girl first, I am LOVING Dr. Andy” – yay!!! my love for Dr. Andy is LEGEN-wait for it-DARY! ugh. Dr. Andy is a life ruiner. LIFE.RUINER!
If that lab coat opens up and I see even a hint of a thigh holster, I’m toast. Without butter.
LOL!! Call 911!!
Episode 1 Spoilers
First a couple things. Yes the order of the episodes are out of whack. I recently read that they did indeed fk with the airing of the episodes. I’m beginning to wonder if they wanted this series to succeed at all… I also am curious if everyone posting that they hate everyone on the show except Alex, are you going to be able to finish the rewatch open minded enough to enjoy the good parts? Just asking…
1. I just want to say that I want to marry Dr. Andy. Seriously. or at least have a long term torrid affair.
2. Anyone who has worked in medical for the past 5 yrs probably lol’d at Andy’s “EMR..the bain of our existence” comment. LOL!! (everyone else is staring blankly at the screen)
3. open shirt, Oh hello chest hair!!! asdrajdfkajsdf (steph…so sorry you can’t see this)
4. Spursy, i’m drowning in the chin dimple. I blame you. (thanks, love)
5. I liked when the kid rolled his eyes when his father said he had had diarhea. Totes what a 14 yr old would do.
6. Alex speaking in medical terms is like ear p0rn to me. T.R.U.T.H.
7. Noticed every time Alex (McG, Dr. Andy) eats, he takes huge bites and really just goes for it. Is this something he does for the camera or does he really eat like that? He even talks with his mouth full which cracks me up on camera. Real life, not so much. But I DO remember what McMo told me about men who eat with gusto. *_* Add that to his comment about being an attentive lover and I need to lie down for a moment ……..brb……………………..
8. Andy telling Pam that she’s the best and he’s sure she’ll think of something. That’s a true doc right there. True. Story.
9. Peripartum cardiomyopathy – the issue with the mom & baby? That may sound out there…but it’s true to life. Read my note from Nov 4th above. It happens more than you may think. Crazy. Real. Life. Sh/t right there.
10. Dr Andy and Quol…..i can barely express my immense love for these two and it only gets better as the series goes on.
11. Quol – “yeah but he’s no Dr. Andy Yblonski”. Yes, Quol…but who is??
12. I need to add Dr. Andy in surgical cap to my hat theme. adfkjdl;kafd
13. Every time i watch this episode and Ryan knocks on the glass during surg and says “it’s ME Ryan!” and Andy goes, “yes, yes I SEE that its you!” – I LOL every time. why is that so stupid funny to me??
14. Dr. David to Ryan when the tells him that yes, the woman waiting on the heart may die before they get it there because it has to be a gift. Yes,…yes it does.
15. His ringtone!!! haha, Quol changed his ringtone! His eyebrows kill me here.
16. When Andy goes in to talk to the father about the possibility of brain damage. …ugh. Stop it with your face Alex!! your faaaaace!!! How could that dude look at him and not burst into tears?
17. PICA – another crazy sounding but very real disorder! Can you imagine the embarrassment and shame of eating metal and not being able to stop yourself? Poor kid.
18. The O.R. scenes with the heart – way too over dramatic.
19. when Andy talks to the mother, he grabs the hand with the IV port in it. IRL…i’d kick his ass for doing that. OUCH!! Oh who am I kidding? I’d suck it up and smile too.
They TOTALLY fcked with the order of the episodes – to the point of hysterical-ness (word?).
1. Marry me, Dr. Andy. Seriously – (SPOILER) – how TF bad could it have been for the b.tch to have left Dr. Andy? Seriously? Spend a day in my life – b.tch, and my NotDrAndy is not exactly Quasimodo – but he ain’t Dr. Andy.
2. EMR – where medical personnel walk around all day pushing a lunch cart/laptop combo.
7. LOL! I think he really eats like that – I’ve seen a fan pic of him going after a sandwich. And… .oh… *fanning self** ….
8. I loved Pam. So wished we could have seen more of her. I loved that he knew she was the center of the operation. Loved.
10. Dr. Andy and Quol. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE. Best part of the series.
13. And I love that we have really already met Ryan – in the PILOT, but lets just ignore that little tidbit, shall we?
15. I loved that recurring (I think?) thing where Quol changes the ringtone. Totally what I would do, Q. Totally.
17. PICA totally real. Totally weird – not just metal. Chalk is a big one. Dirt too.
Hey you, you know I’ll keep watching it’s not THAT bad that I’d turn off.
1. I love Dr Andy too. Like so much.
During the episode I sat there thinking does Alex know he is ridiculously good looking? And do people lose their train of thought in this presence? And does he know that when he raises his eyebrows a fan faints some where…. I had a lot of time to think…basically whenever Miranda is on. I am an emo tom boy and she annoys the heck out of me.
10. Dr Andy and Kuol…)can someone look up how to spell this dudes name???) one of the best things about this show. The. Best
My episode one notes:
1. I freaking love Kuol’s character. So very much.
2. I love how Alex says baby. Like it has a whole heap of e’s on the end. Your babeeeeee
3. Choc-chip cookies make me happy, by this shows logic that makes me healthy…can I eat a choc chip cookie? (I then went and actually ate two).
4. Oh why do Miranda scenes come in and ruin the moment?
Things we learnt from Three Rivers today:
You can donate part of your liver and it grows back in 6 to 8 weeks.
Smartee Infant. Its Kuol, per IMDB.
I think it is more exotic as Quol. So much so that I would like to change my name to Quimmer.
It’s kind of like Shelburne. So many different ways to spell it and everyone still wants to spell it their own way. As an Australian I still want it to be Shelbourne.
REply to Infant:
“2. I love how Alex says baby.” – it’s not nearly as awesome as when he says it in his aussie accent. adfja;ldfjad;sf Every TBUP interview where he references JLo’s babies = ESS turning into pudde of goo.
I will have to watch an interview and compare.
Episode 2 (spoilers)
I have much fewer notes for this episode because honestly I was too distracted by the chest hair peeking out from the scrubs. Entire minutes passed before I thought about why I had a pen in hand.Truth.
1. Oh jeez, he’s killing me with the chest hair!
And i learned to love Dr. David.
lost his father, gained his father and lost him again. The moral of this story is don’t wait till its too late. Love freely, forgive freely. You never know when you will lose the opportunity.
2. Well hello chest hair!
3. Chest hair!!!! afjaldskfj;sdlkfas;dlka;sdkfjas;dfkjasdfj
(see???)
4. Dr. Andy fighting for his patient….adkja;ldsjfla;sdkfja;dslkf One of the top reasons I love Dr. Andy. True. Story. Who doesnt’ want a doctor like that? And from my own personal and current sitch…it means even more to me now.
5. Dr. Andy “this whole thing sux!” David, don’t disagree with Andy. David, “this whole thing sux!”. lol
6. I like that Alex doesn’t play the resident manwhore in this series. At least not in the first 13 episodes.
7. Miranda, I know everyone loves to hate on her, but on this watching I have to say that I loved the way she stood up to the much older docs & the cops. Not letting them push her aroundand letting them get their organs and the cops for being an as.hole to a mother who just lost her child. Reglardless of what HE did, it was alot for the mother to take in at once. I kinda loved Miranda here.
8. Alex & Alfre confrontation over approving the surgery….alex. stop. it. with. your. face. (no. please.don’t.) (from an administrative point of view, Andy is also the doctor you hate)
9. Carson’s son
10. drinking on the roof. I hope they’re off duty….
11. And the moment that always kills me!! His face when he says, “We’re going to work it out”….ugh! His wife is an idiot lesbian. No h8!!
F.L.R.
The Moral ambiguity of this episode…the donor who was a murderer, yet as a donor saved 6 lives. Andy tells his mom that this is how they “will remember him” on the wall as a donor life saver. Yet I’m sure the murder victim’s family doesn’t feel the same way. I thought this was very interesting…
Reply to Ess’ notes.
LOL 1-3 are chest hair. I love you. Not fake internet love either.
9. It is a rule in my house to never leave home angry.
10. Wouldn’t it be cold in just your scrubs and also, do you now walk into an operating room with those same scrubs on? Or wait did y’all go get changed? Confuzzled.
Show loves posing the moral questions. Go show go. My question is, how did they even connect him to the crime? Ok I understand with the bracelet but HOW. Were the cops at the crime scene working on the murder case and they noticed the bracelet? That part I don’t get. And yes, you would think the murder victims family would not feel the same way.
My notes are pretty much non existent except for:
mmmm cheese steak.
Yeah seriously that was my note…..
Fact:
Your family can override your decision to be an organ donor so if you chose to become one, discuss your wishes with them.
Things We Learnt From Three Rivers Today:
Keep your inhaler in a place with easy access.
Wait I had another thought. I liked how the Bostonians (?) had their accents. Heh. It’s one of the few accents I can tie to a place rather than a general area e.g the south.
People from Pittsburgh also have a very particular accent… which thank goodness Alex & company didn’t bother to attempt.
The show gets points for mentioning Primanti Bros sandwiches (MY FAVORITE!!!!) but Dr Andy’s complete lack of interest in discussing the Steeler’s tickets with the nurse in the opening scene just proved the guy’s not a real Pittsburgher. Steeler’s season tickets/game day tickets have been sell-outs since the 1970s (…1972 I have been informed). As a result, MANY MANY Pittsburgh fans drive to Cleveland (which is only an hour’s drive away) to see the Steelers play as the teams are in the same division & play twice a year. Not uncommon. Sometimes the Cleveland stadium can be noticeably filled with Steeler’s fans. Pittsburgh fans will also drive to Cincinnati (a longer drive but Cincinnati has less devoted fans than Cleveland, so that stadium always has seats available for out of towners).
And in conclusion…. I like all the exterior shots of Pittsburgh they use in the Show, it’s really cool.
There is room in the Bengal’s stadium for ticket holders, out of towners, homeless people to live in and random groups of marching bands to parade through the stands during the game and no one would notice. And that was with this years winning season! Yep, lots of room for Steelers fans. Also, Pittsburghers come to Columbus to watch the Penguins probably whip our hockey team as well – which is NHL in name only as far as I can tell. Pittsburgh is an interesting city – lots of bridges and tunnels for crossing those literal Three Rivers! Yes – that’s why the show is called that in case someone missed it when AOL was pointing them out.
These people from Pittsburgh sound like people from my home town. Sport obsessed. I am one of these people.
Reply to Infant Epi 2
“Fact:
Your family can override your decision to be an organ donor so if you chose to become one, discuss your wishes with them.” – yes, i learned this from one of Alex’s interviews. #YesIAmAGeek
Speaking of interviews, his 3R interviews I think are some of his best. He was excstatic to be working, LOVED the premise of the show, was laid back and more open than I think at any other time. A little more self assured than in Moonlight days yet not as closed off and serious as his now H50 days. He had just completed TBUP filming and went straight into 3R. He was on top of the world…
F.U. CBS.
“He was excstatic to be working, LOVED the premise of the show, was laid back and more open than I think at any other time”
Why am I just picturing him sitting there with this goofy face grinning away when he was in his 3R interviews??
I believe we all picture him – all the time- which is why he is a F.L.R. and I can’t seem to concentrate on simple tasks anymore. I can’t speak for anyone else but he is usually not doing interviews when I picture him. Or maybe he is #doinginterviewspantsless
ACA CVC ACA….
EP 2 – RYAN’S FIRST DAY
I watched ep 2 today and I liked it MUCH better than the pilot. Dumb old CBS switching around the episodes! They did this with another show I had started watching a year or so ago, called CHAOS and of course the show didn’t make it more than half a year just like 3R, Serenity, etc. *sigh* At least ML was shown in order (we think?)??
“The donor was a murderer,” that whole plot line… wow. I can see why they didn’t want “morally ambiguous” in the pilot & instead went for “save the BABY and the BABY MOMMY!” Much more cut & dry.
Why would you keep the keychain of someone you murdered? That’s pretty psycho… I felt bad for the mom & felt her performance was great, that actress again really sold the confusion & grief. I kept expecting somehow the donor to be proven innocent of the murder.
I felt all the characters were much more sympathetic in this ep. I liked Miranda much much more and the flow of everyone and the work in the hospital seemed much more realistic than in the Pilot.
CHAOS – what a good description of the *cluster* that was that show. The first ep. was confusing- the show moved all around the schedule and by the time I was remembering it and looking forward to it – it was gone. I love that jawline of that one cutie on that show, he needs to be in something else by now. Of course, there was also the hot scotsman- he also needs to be in a show. Casting agents – call me!
CHAOS would have been a hilarious show to cross over with H50! CVC, you totally have good taste & know what you are talking about. Eric Close I think is the guy you mean with the jawline cutie.
http://www.google.com/images?q=eric+close&rls=com.microsoft%3A*&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&oi=image_result_group&sa=X
And the other is James Murray. Loved that accent!
The title didn’t ring a bell until you mentioned Eric Close. I started watching this show because I liked him from Without A Trace. Accent (and it’s owner) were hot, but never did learn his name. James Murray? If I’m remembering it right, lots of action, some humor, but very little character development. Although I probably missed several episodes because of the crazy rescheduling — maybe I missed some character stuff, too.
Eric Close was in an episode of Criminal Minds after WAT ended. And speaking of Criminal Minds, I saw the boy from The Big Wheel episode with Alex on an old episode of House the other night. It originally aired in January, 2009. Didn’t like his performance nearly as much this time.
Without a Trace!! I am rewatching old episodes at midnight and 1 a.m right now as I have no concept of time yet and nowhere to be. lol.
I am still pissed at CBS for cancelling WAT.. F U CBS!! (ironically i watch more CBS shows than any other network. we have a love/hate thing going on)
Ooh, I saw him on Criminal Minds too. I was hoping he could become a regular on there.
That young boy was so brilliant on The BigWheel with Alex that it’s probably all downhill for him now. lol. Poor kid.
You are so right about it being Eric Close – thanks for the link and photos I am a total s/cker for that type of jaw line and mm…mm…mouth…….
Steph: I’m glad you liked epi 2 better! YAY! Just wait…more morally ambiguousness to come. I like the way they kept throwing that out there.
I liked it so much more. The only moment that was weird to me was how Andy kept insisting it was a “good day” when Miranda was upset the Coach died — Andy seemed as close to Coach as Miranda did… but that was the only weird moment for me. Everything else seemed to flow much better, more normally, and the characters were much more sympathetic.
Plus they mentioned the Steelers & Primanti Bros! ;D Hahahahaha I know you don’t care.
But I think my take-away from that ep is this: my personal belief — organ donation is a good thing. Everyone who can do it really should do it. This is what I believe. But I don’t believe that organ donation automatically makes you a good person if you lived a sh/tty life and did sh/tty things, organ donation doesn’t miraculously make all those things ok. It is just one good act (or 6 good acts) equal to any other good acts you may have done in your living life.
And I think as we all know (at least, from my own experience) you can do a lot of good deeds, they don’t make the bad deeds you do go away. Or you can bring a lot of happiness to someone’s life but it doesn’t make the sadness in their life any less, either. All of that is still there. I know none of you watch this show but last year on Doctor Who, the Doctor & his companion Amy went back in time & visited Vincent Van Gogh. They had a great time, good adventures, really deep talks & formed a serious bond, etc. and when the Doctor & Amy went back to the future, Amy was convinced that Vincent would have lived a long & happy life (that meeting her & the doctor would have changed his future for the better) and there’d be a ton more Van Gogh paintings in the museum and everything would have ended happily for Mr. Van Gogh. Well (SPOILER ALERT) nothing has changed. Vincent Van Gogh has still committed suicide at an early age, no new paintings, nothing different at all. And the Doctor says to Amy ” every life is a pile of good things and bad things… The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things, and make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things.” Anyway, I’m not sure what it means, but that’s what it made me think of.
Ok from the above I thought about the grandfather paradox i.e if you went back in time and killed your grandfather, you yourself would never exist in the future, therefore you can’t go back in time as you were never born. However if you are never born, no one kills your grandfather in the past, thus allowing you to be born and travel back in time to kill your grandfather….
I love things with time travel because you just walk yourself around and round in circle. Terminator is an excellent example….but perhaps that’s a conversation for another time or another forum even.
‘But I think my take-away from that ep is this: my personal belief — organ donation is a good thing. Everyone who can do it really should do it.’
I agree. Here! Here! Show will always be awesome for making an attempt at changing how we think about organ donation.
“the donor who was a murderer, yet as a donor saved 6 lives. Andy tells his mom that this is how they “will remember him” on the wall as a donor life saver. Yet I’m sure the murder victim’s family doesn’t feel the same way”.
Ess – agreed – Dr. Andy was being a great guy-natch- to say comforting words to the mom, but the view of the murder victim’s family, the son would probably just be the guy who got away with murder, and the organs are taken after he died so I doubt it gives him a pass with them, either. In fact, if I walked in and saw his name in memoriam on a wall somewhere, and my child had been killed by him, I’d be pretty pis.sed off about it.
But if Dr. Andy looked into my eyes and held my hand to explain things, I’d at least give it a listen – and then ask him to become pantsless!
OK, what episode is everyone on now? Got antsy waiting on the ledge and just rewatched episode 4 (Code Green). Guess I’ve seen it too many times too recently– nothing stands out enough for me to comment on. Since I’ve had my say about #5 already, I’ll just go back to the ledge now (with my Bloodies) and wait for people to catch up again. Or maybe continue with my West Wing rewatch.
Just a note in case someone is unaware, in the transplant scene at or near the end of this episode (4), that’s Travis from The Doctors playing the anesthesiologist.
I haven’t gotten past ep 2 yet, but I’m hoping to cuddle up with ghat puppy on Sunday.
yes, I think I just watched ep 2.
Oh wow! Dr Travis! Remember when he was the Batchelor?
Just popping in to say hello. I enjoy your delightful ramblings very very much. I do not have time to do any rewatching right now, but I have seen TR more than once. It is where I first met and fell in love with Alex– although that last part is redundant, huh? Meet Alex/fall in love= natural order of things. Anyway, I do enjoy McG’s tats, and just about everything else about him, but I don’t think I will evah get over Dr. Andy.
Lovely, another Andy-girl. Andy was the last Alex character I “met”….and also my favourite…Welcome Grace!!
Here’s my epi 3 remarks: Good Intentions
1. Those girls look good for being out all night. What were they doing? I look much worse than that by 11pm.
2. Why is the mom in her wedding dress & cool she can still fit.
3. HOLY FK ALEX, be careful sliding like that on your front! *protect the FOY*
4. When jealous as.hat says, “I know who you screwed over to get there” – Andy’s face. Hmmmm….
5. Hot. Sweaty. Alex. -I’d tap that harder than the angry fist of god. #justsayin
6. The playlist! – Andy you devil. Listening to that boy’s list. Cute face/dance. (sorry Infant)
7. FIGHT FOR YOUR PATIENT ANDY! <3 <3 <3 have i mentioned this is what I love about Andy? Among other things…
8. This whole shoudl they list him or not convo annoys me but not because its int here but because it probably actually happens. One of the thesmes of the show is that doctors can't 'choose'. There is no rhyme or reason to who lives & who dies in this world. So for them to discuss his past and sentence him to a death sentence & not want to list him was just all kinds of wrong. Good for you, show.
9. This girl who's parents who got poisoned is GOOD! lets get her on H50
10. Dr. Andy "So Smoothe". LOL!! – there is a lightness/playfulness to Dr. A's char in this episode that I just love. He runs the gamut on emotions in this one.
11. Speaking of…oOOOOOH MAD DR ANDY! Not as hot as Mad McG but I can deal.
12. The gunshot chick needs to chill the fk out.
13. Miranda has tatts that they didn't cover up. WHAT TF CBS?? #freethegecko!!
14. Young love….awwww
15. Andy totally c*ck blocked.. heh (love.it.)
16. David (Dr. Lee) talking to the girl before taking her Dad. This is where i started to love David. Great, great scene.
17. I love Pam & she's so beautiful
18. Dr. David, ILU
19. The rooftop scene. Perfection. Both actors. FULL STOP.
20.Maine has more coastline than FL?
21. Motorcycle story is stupid…but not as stupid as his "wife". Full Stop.
2. Along with mom in the wedding dress dad was geared up for a fishing trip – and near the end of the show they explained to the daughter that the fumes disoriented the parents – that’s why they were dressed oddly.
12. in the big circle of life, even though she was a ‘innocent bystander’ I think the gunshot victim deserved it – she was a pain in the a.s
I agree, the “innocent bystander” was a pain in the a#s. But it seemed she was willing to sacrifice her health to uphold her commitments. Remind you of anyone …?
“she was willing to sacrifice her health to uphold her commitments. Remind you of anyone …?” – **crickets chirping** nope, no one. Cough*aol*Cough
#9 & #19 ACA!!! Only, how tall was that kid in that scene?? get down off the wall, kiddo, making Dr Andy look like … like McG makes Danno look. ;D
I am totally confused by Andy’s wife… she is the blonde ER doctor right? and we haven’t seen them talk to each other at all right? just smiles at a distance?? Am I missing something?
Lisa (blonde Dr.) isn’t his wife. His wife has yet to be introduced. But soon. Obvi cuz there’s not that many episodes left. lol.
Oh ok! I thought I was missing something. I get confused easy with big casts of characters where they talk about characters that aren’t on screen yet and I keep forgetting the names of the supporting characters I don’t know that well. Thanks.
Episode 3.
My notes
1. Andy is playing that $tupid sport called rugby. It’s supposed to make me think he’s a hot athletic type person….ok he IS a hot type athletic person. Rugby, however is still a $tupid sport. Stop playing it Andy. Thank you.
2. Alex listens to the play list and does a little jig, his Irish ancestors are not impressed but I think it’s cute. Yes, Ess it I did think it was cute heheh.
3. Dr Andy, when he fights for his patients we need a name for him, Capt Andy, SuperDr, SuperAndy or something because he is epic when he is in this mode.
4. Ohhh Miranda has tattoos she is soooo bad @ss…. *rolls eyes*
My response to Ess’ comments:
4. When jealous as.hat says, “I know who you screwed over to get there” – Andy’s face. Hmmmm…
And to what he was referring we’ll never know. Cheers CBS.
9. This girl who’s parents who got poisoned is GOOD! lets get her on H50
ACA
12. The gunshot chick needs to chill the fk out.
She was annoying. I started cleaning my room during her scenes.
16. David (Dr. Lee) talking to the girl before taking her Dad. This is where i started to love David. Great, great scene.
I’m liking this character much more during our rewatches.
20.Maine has more coastline than FL?
And more than California???
21. Motorcycle story is stupid…but not as stupid as his “wife”. Full Stop.
But but Dr Andy used to be so bad a$s with his motorcycle that he gave it up for lovvvvveee. My favourite bit in this scene was the face he pulled when he started talking about it. Guys and their cars/bikes. You’re all so adorkable.
I just watched ep 3. The TR theme song reminds me of the soundtrack from Forrest Gump. Not so soft and delicate, but the tune is there. Anyway, rugby. Errrrrgh. Stupid game (sorry FOYeur!) I thought Andy was going to do himself some serious damage in that scene.
I detected the Oz accent when he said ‘aw right’ to the guy who smashed him.
Do we find out later in the series what exactly Andy did to get where he is?
That lawyer woman…so fkn annoying! If she’d been my patient, I would have ripped her sutures out myself.
I think I am falling under the AOL spell, finally. I only ever really liked McG, but as we all know, I am now a MOONEY and I am really liking Dr. Andy. A lot
Poor poor Jack – he’s always going to be last with me!
Glad you like Andy, I love Andy…..
I love Rugby and I love Rugby players……
but I don’t love Andy playing rugby at all!
“I think I am falling under the AOL spell, finally” – I am spreading my wings and welcoming you, my child.
Life is good here.
I have to LOL at the rugby hate.
Yes, we get a bit of the story line about Andy’s past…looked promising. Not the WHO they mentioned here, but then again, maybe we did. Table this subject for later.
F U CBS!!
Rugby $ucks. The. End.
It’s all about the MEN playing it!!
I heard the Aussie accent when he said “aw right” too.
The lawyer woman was very annoying. Maybe it’s a good thing you and I weren’t her doctor.
It’s ok, you don’t have to like Jack because it means I can share him with one less person.
It was on here last weekend…I know you watched it.
My panties giggled at the “aww right so it was def a bit of Aussie coming through.
So, the Pittsburgh stuff, from the rugby scene. Its kind of funny. My husband was born/raised/lived his whole life there (until I came along) so I have kind of an insiders/outsiders view on the city. So everything I’m about to say here — just my opinions. If I mis-speak & there are any other Western PA-ers out there, please feel free to correct me publicly or privately & I’ll make yins some further clarifying comments n’at. Go Stillers!
Anyway!
Andy & his rugby buddies seem to indicate that now that Andy works “across the river” (the north side of town) it’s the fancy side and the where Andy is from (Mount WA, south of downtown) is the “bad” side of town. Now, this is funny because Pittsburgh can’t literally have a good side of the tracks vs a bad side of the tracks because technically there are…. Three Rivers…. that divide the city up into …. Three Sections.
I believe Pittsburghers would all say they are from the “bad” side of town. This is my outsiders perspective speaking. Pittsburgh as a local culture really glamorizes blue-collar working class life. So unlike in many places where you would want to be from the nice part of town, (I am now inserting my tongue firmly into my cheek) they all believe they are from a rough & tumble, lower-income, working class neighborhood and everyone else is better off than them.
NOW, I can only speak for these days but Mount WA is actually pretty nice. Maybe back in the 70s or 80s it was rougher (it probably was, it all was rougher back then) but the South Side isn’t the “bad” area of Pittsburgh. The real dangerous part of Pittsburgh isn’t the North Side (hospital) or the South Side (Andy) but the wedge West of the downtown core that makes up the 3rd section of town. This is where (on the show) snippy work-aholic lawyer-lady got shot & (in real life) has some of the most dangerous neighborhoods anywhere in the country as far as gun crimes/violent crimes go. So Show got *that* right.
Show also did get it right though that *these days* all the really nice neighborhoods are on the North side (like, that’s primarily where all the sports celebrities live, etc). But unless you actually live in the mansions with all the super-richie riches, I doubt that the average North Side neighborhoods (like where a doctor might live) are substantially nicer than the average South Side ones (full disclosure, my husband is from the South Side). But I haven’t done any like… average income analysis or anything, this is just my impressions.
Anyway, the only other thing to add is that everywhere you go in Pittsburgh, seeing Steelers/Penguins /Pirates logos (in that order) on clothes, flags, signs, is inescapable. Most men are wearing the steelers logo somewhere on their person at any given point in time – this is not an exaggeration. All of those Rugby Dudes would have been wearing Steelers logo-ed t-shirts, if Show was Real Life but of course it is not.
I initially did watch 3R when it first aired (tried to anyway) because of the Pittsburgh connection to see how the city is represented- because it is a unique place to “locate” a show when most most most tv shows out there are set either in New York or LA (except for that one Show set in Hawaii). I don’t expect there to be much in the way of diving into local culture (the way they do, say, on That One Show Set In Hawaii) but I do like trying to figure out where certain things may have been filmed, and all of the exterior shots of the bridges, that is really cool.
What is that one show set in Hawaii called? Can’t think of it’s name…
Pittsburgh sounds complicated. I’m just gonna put that out there, but noting to avoid the wedge West of the downtown. I love how sport obsessed they are. Pittsburgh should become BFF with Melbourne, Australia.
Do you know I knew show was called 3R before Andy explained it because I’ve been to Chicago and learnt that the cities flag, with the three white stripes, represents the three sections of the city? I learnt about the rivers as well, can’t say I remember what the stars mean but I can tell you what the stripes on the American flag mean so does that make up for it?
Infant your knowledge of America goes way above & beyond… I didn’t even know Chicago & Pittsburgh had city flags…. you are amazing.
Steph, it’s funny you say this. At my work, some times at lunch we do trivia challenges. Today one of my friends said “I am going to write an American Quiz just for Grace.”
My knowledge of American things far exceeds my knowledge of Australian things. Another reason to be deported.
Thanks for the Pittsburgh McNerd! That helps and I will def be thinking of some of that when I’m not perving over Dr. Andy.
Finally got around to watching ep 3:
- Chick in the opening scene is way too calm. If I came home to someone lying on the floor like that, I’d be kinda freaking out.
- Boy transplant stoner dude looks like something out of Twilight, which makes me hate him on the spot.
- 15 minutes in and I’m totes bored.
- 30 minutes in and I’m still totes bored.
- Hey look, it’s Alex on the roof. His fave place.
- Dimplemania. The only good thing about this ep.
- How long have those lobster rolls been in that bag? All that mayo unrefrigerated? Yikes.
- Chick in the red scrubs is a total bot.
That’s all I got. Sad.
Oh, except for Andy’s line at the end… “she cleaned my helmit.” Now we’re talking! I’ll be happy to clean your helmit anytime. Anytime.
My episode 4 comments: Code Green
Yay for happy endings.
1. Long ass intro. I don’t care about the football players. Pls get to Andy. K thx.
2. Dr. Andy…your faaaaaaace
3. When Dr. Andy says, “we have to hope for a match” meaning “we have to wait for someon to die”.
4. Trauma scares the sh/t out of me. True story. I was a first responder for about a year. Terrifying..
5. SPINAL CORD INJURY! EEEK!! (sorry had to say it)
6. Burr hole – another thing that scares the sh/t out of me…
7.The medi-vac dude gets out of the copter and tesll andy that the pt has an ‘open fracture”. Does he really need to say “the bone is through the skin?” I’m just asking the non-medical people…. this made me LOL
8. Dr. David is getting a workout with all that CPR. Too bad he has his shirt on.
9. OOOOoh NOoooo. Ryan. Ryan. Ryan. Just. No. (telling dude’s wife @ heart)
10. Mad Dr. Andy again!! **hot** doesn’t flare the nostrils as much as McG tho. Is that where the extra hotness comes from? or is it that McG yells & Andy doesn’t?
11. The hospital is very colorful. In fact, those are all the same colors I have in my house! Good call, show…
12. Dr. A…your faaaaace
13. This ep seems really looong.
14. Over dramatic ending. But I’m sure it happends. They put a heart in and the body rejects it.
My notes to ep 4.
1. Heyyy I’m watching Friday Night Lights. Tim Riggins where are you?????
Gee I’m really bad at taking notes during this show.
Replies to Ess’ Ep 4 notes:
5. SPINAL CORD INJURY! EEEK!! (sorry had to say it)
*hugs*
“7.The medi-vac dude gets out of the copter and tesll andy that the pt has an ‘open fracture”. Does he really need to say “the bone is through the skin?” I’m just asking the non-medical people…. this made me LOL”
Wait an open fracture means the bone goes through the skin? I thought it meant something else like the bone goes through the skin! Hahaha nah mate it was $tupid but all shows assume audience is dumb. Yay for 3R clarica…
“10. Mad Dr. Andy again!! **hot** doesn’t flare the nostrils as much as McG tho. Is that where the extra hotness comes from? or is it that McG yells & Andy doesn’t?”
I’d so just stand there crying all infant like.
14. Over dramatic ending. But I’m sure it happends. They put a heart in and the body rejects it.
Yay for happy endings
See how it just started working after Andy stared at it? The force is strong with this one.
Did you know that….
Most religions support organ and tissue donation
http://www.donatelife.gov.au/discover/religion-a-donation
“Did you know that….
Most religions support organ and tissue donation” – good info Infant! And yet, so few people choose it. Boo.
Gotta give people something other than useless Navy facts.
This episode Should have been called ” why aren’t there seatbelts in school buses?” lots of open plot lines in this one that make me wonder what happened- the running back with the scouting cards who had the compound fracture (this is where the bone cuts through the skin, did you know?) did he end up having an amputation? How will he be able to go to college if he can’t play football? How can his sister possibly take care of him? I’m curious about how that would have played out.
I also liked Harry Potter the equipment manager, he was a believable sports geek for sure. His heart to heart (no pun intended) with Mean Dad in the Hallway of Transplant Heroes was really well done I’m glad he got to get the seat-switching admission off his chest & that Mean Dad just took it in stride.
And ACA with infant, dr Andy must be a Jedi because he did get that heart to start beating with the power of his mind, that was pretty good.
That kid was sooo Harry Potter right?
So Harry Potter! Hair cut, glasses & everything. Even the personality! And after the bus wreck, I’ll bet he has a b/tchin scar too.
They did show the kid with the open fracture at the end. They showed Dr Andy ans a$$hat other surgeon operating and working on his leg. They were saying they didn’t have a lot to work with. At the end they showed him in the bed with his leg bandaged. It was all there & he wiggled his toes.
Dr Andy’s Jedi mind tricks. Lol!
This epi was full of emo.
O.M.G. I will have to rewatch. I must have blacked out or something? Maybe I thought it was a different kid or something? There were so many.
I felt sorry for Harry Potter kid. Can you imagine just walking away from an accident that injured & killed what…30+ people? Yet weird sh/t like that happens every day. I’m thinking therapy needs to be in his future. Lol.
I know there are still about 9 (?) episodes left, but I think episode 4 will be my favourite. It ticked all the boxes for me. I like ER type medical shows where everyone runs around working at lightning speed, and I also like the slower paced, character driven ones – this epi had both. 10/10
i loved how that kid touched his leg when he came to after the op.
1. I didn’t think the intro was too long. I thought it set up the storyline well. That father berating his son for not having a great game. (You just know that’s going to come back and bite him later). Antonio going on and on about how great his game was, the other guy scoring three cards from the scouts.
OMG, the bus is going to crash! No big surprise here, but I thought the post crash scene when Harry Potter came to and all the others were lying around injured was so eerie. Poor kid.
2. Dr. Andy has a wonderful bedside manner.
3. ‘We have to hope for a match’. Ess’ comment ‘we have to wait for someone to die.’ So, so true. When we first got word that they had a match for my brother, whilst we were so happy for him, there was another family out there going through such sadness.
4. I couldn’t watch the drilling scene.
5. Yay for Rose! She came back. Good one, Dr. Lee. Lucky for Rose no-one else came in while he was working on her, or Boss Doc would have told him to call it.
6. Poor, poor Ryan.
7. Alex really does have the most incredible eyelashes.
8. So, does someone want to tell me what an open fracture really is??
9. The dad looking at the wall where the donor names are listed. All I could think was how this was not the Hall of Fame he was expecting for his son.
I had a lot of tears for this episode.
Response to Westy’s comments on #4
I am so glad you loved this episode! There was much I loved about it too. Maybe I just thought the intro was too long becuse it was the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen it. The scene where he wakes up was very eerie indeed.
2. “Dr. Andy has a wonderful bedside manner.” – I kinda want to make a McPerv joke here but I have so many feeeeelings for Dr. Andy I just can’t. Not at this time. Ck back later.
3. I think show does a decent job at showing the two sides of the coin. The gift of life and the sadness at the loss of life. On a side note: Big hugs Westy….big.hugs.
9. “All I could think was how this was not the Hall of Fame he was expecting for his son.” – THIS almost brought me to tears. This statement. So profound.
“9. The dad looking at the wall where the donor names are listed. All I could think was how this was not the Hall of Fame he was expecting for his son.”
Oh holy jeeze man. And that is how a comment made me emo. Luckily I have a new packet of Oreos to cheer me up.
Finally got to watch epi 5 (Alone Together)..which is ironically why i haven’t been able to watch. Not Dr. Andy &I have been alone together the past 2 wks and while i could easily get him to watch show, I’d have a hard time explaining my note taking. Thus…here i am .Finally.
1. Dr. Andy & Quol…seriously. How perfect are they? someone find this actor and send him to Hawaii!!

2. Andy to Quol -”you can’t be alone in my room”.. heh. Sounds like he’s talking to a fangirl. Oh wait, he kind of is. I forget Quol is Andy’s biggest fan.
3. “AC/DC and Motorhead?? You’re Sudanese!” – Quol I heart you like no other.
4. The CCWC’s jumping out the window…figures, the only nudity we get on the show and ONCE AGAIN it’s NOT Alex. Boo.
5. Oh there we go. The stupid, stupid wife. I want to like her but i just can’t. She’s stupid. How can you say no to Andy’s face? LOOK AT IT!!! his heart is breaking! Ugh. I hate her. She’s a v v good actress…which makes it all the easier to hate her.
6. Theater pt is a racist dumbass. The hospitals are FILLED with them! Docs & nurses have to put up with their sh/t all the time. I kind of like that show addressed this issue. However, if pt requests a non-resident for patient care, they have to abide by it. They can’t force a non-resident on a patient.
7. Andy’s wife grabbing his hand when her friend & partner were saying goodbye. This is where I really started hating her. How dare she reach out to him when she needed him and shoot him down later? He loves her so.. B.I.T.C.H.
8. Dr. Lee & theater guy – I love everything about this scene. Powerful. So perfectly acted. Theater guy, while being discriminating against Dr. Lee due to his race, he talks about being discriminated against due to being gay. Sadly this is how a lot of ignorance comes to be. You kick me, I’ll kick you harder.
9. A great physician will love the unloveable. Epic. Line.
10. Sorry Grace, I’m digging Miranda on this rewatch. I like her moxy and standing up to that big, older doctor to get her patient, even one she can’t stand the liver. Because it’s the right thing to do.
11. Oh the pic of Dr. Andy & Rena on his desk! Open shirt! Dr. Andy’s abs alert!! Why have i never caught that before? I think I actually watched this episode for plot. So well done…
12. Miranda to doc when he says he’s sending her his nose job bill , “It won’t help”. HA!! Go Miranda.
13. Rena, “What’s more important than saving lives?” Andy, “Having one…” YOU TELL HER ANDY!! You stupid b/tch he WAS going to meet you halfway…remember he suggested therapy??
14. Andy, “Is this because you don’t want to have kids with me?” sh/t…I don’t have ovaries and I want to have his kids. Truth. Ok, I get the kid thing can be a deal breaker. But didn’t you two morons talk about this before you got married?? Still. …how can you say NO to that faaaaace?? His face in this scene breaks my heart. Into tiny pieces. I’m getting the mini-vac out to pick them all up they’re so tiny..
15. Dr. Lee. I kinda love you. Don’t tell Andy. This scene is all kinds of awesome with the flowers & them coming to common ground. So well acted..
16. HEL=LO Dr. Andy’s abs again. Why am i forgetting we actually saw them?? Oh yeah..plot again. I curse that robe. Why is he wearing a robe to bed? Again wth the long pj bottoms. ugh.
17. Quol & Andy. I love them like I love butter on toast. They just make me happy. They make my heart happy and my panties giggle.
I love this episode. Full Stop.
Yeaaaa! Someone else hearts Episode 5 as much (maybe more, no! not possible) than I do. The last scene with Rena and Andy — shatters my heart, too. EVERY time. What the f/ck is the matter with her?!? When she admits she may want to have kids with someone else — I just want to stab her! Another testament to AOL’s acting — when his character is hurting, we tend to get violent. At least I do.
And the final scene with Quol, “I guess I don’t have a wife anymore”. The tone of his voice and the look on his face —- puts me in a fetal position on the floor!
I know I had a few more comments earlier on this page. The entire episode is awesome, but those scenes — my favorite epi of the whole series. I’m so glad someone finally watched it. I’ve been waiting. Thanks, Ess for your comments. Think I’ll go now and watch once again.
The epi with Mandy Patinkin is my fave. Ugh. Can’t wait to get there!! is that 7 or 8?? Anywho, this one is very close to the top!
Rena is a stupid ho-bag. She’s living in a world of ‘what-ifs” and he’s trying to live in the present. MAYBE I’d have kids with someone else. Who? A stay at home dad?? Apparently she’s looking for a floormat of a husband. Real people don’t have kids in perfect scenarios. There is no perfect scenario.
My notes on this ep –
1. HOMEWOOD REPRESENT (homewood, a v v dangerous neighborhood) Not sure if they’d own a guy who used a baby as a human shield, I mean WTF was that!
2. Quol & Andy opening scene – HILAR!!!! Love Andy’s version of aneurysm face –OH! and his patient had an actual aneurysm!!!
3. OK show totally lost cred w/me when the Pittsburghers talked about West Virginia like it was another planet. “home of coal mines” UM HELLO. Ask anyone in the general Pittsburgh vicinity what their house is built on & it’s either a slag pile or hollow ground — the entire frickin area was one huge coal mine at one point or another. And it’s still part of people’s lives, Pittsburgher’s houses fall into sinkholes all the time. They explode because of crappy natural gas wells from the 1920s that leak and then ignite. Now — Pittsburghers *do* make fun of West Virginians like any city makes fun of the neighboring city or state vs state rivalry or what have you, but it wouldn’t be in the way the 3R doctors did it. They would probably tell a “you might be a red neck” joke & leave it at that.
And I can see taking the helicopter to get the liver, because helicoptering is always faster than driving but…. Wheeling is like… literally one hour’s drive from Pittsburgh. It’s not that far. At all. So to compare West Virginia to Indiana/the midwest like it’s SOOO different from Pittsburgh… ridiculous. The people in Wheeling were probably like… HEY Y’ALL WHAT GIVES. Anyone who tells you Pittsburgh is NOT part of Appalachia doesn’t know what they’re talking about. That constant dissing on WV was just. plain. dumb. DUMB!
4. Summing up all of Dr Lee & Theater Guy right here– A-MAZE-ING performances. Just wow. It was a really well executed plot line and the actor who played Theater Guy Who Just Vomited Wherever was incredible. What a performance! Too bad 3R probably didn’t exist long enough to submit that performance for an emmy. Because wow.
5. Oh, except to say OH THEATER GUY WHY YOU NO SHUT UP in the operating room & tell everyone Alfre Woodard wanted to be Miranda’s step mom?? LOL. SEDATE HIM FASTER, PEOPLE!
6. Andy & Rena. Huh. So Andy is the Danno and Rena is the Rachel? Do I need to think about this any more? Because AOL’s stupid face almost made my cry TWICE in this episode and like… you know I never cry, people. Stupid face.
1. Humantiy, is sadly, capable of worse acts.
2. Kuol is totes my favourite character after Andy.
3. It was especially dumb to me and you guys know I know A LOT about the US and I was still like why all the constant dissing of WV?
4. These scenes were amazing. ACA.
Response to Steph: epi 5
Not being from there and Dr. Andy or Dr. Lee being in the scene..well…I kind of paid attention but didn’t pay attention to the details. But I get it. Criminal Minds did an episode in Jacksonville…I’m not sure they got one detail right. Seems that shows (maybe just CBS?) when it’s not LA or NY don’t really care about getting all the local customs & nuances down just right.
2. Andy & Quol are brilliant. Full Stop.
3. I’ll take your word for it.
4. ACA 2I&B
6. You’ll put more thought into Andy & Rena later, I’m sure. It will resurface.
ACA on the stupid face. Life Ruiner.
Criminal Minds did an episode about Milwaukee once. They got the suburb name right and mentioned an area of the city called the 3rd Ward. Nothing really rang false. (Surprisingly enough!)
In Jacksonville it’s the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office (JSO) and they called it the Jacksonville Police Dept (JPD). They could have at LEAST got that right…
I don’t remember my thoughts when I first watched this episode, but upon the rewatch I have much praise for it….I’ve also made a TON of notes. Those to come later.
“1. Dr. Andy & Quol…seriously. How perfect are they? someone find this actor and send him to Hawaii!!”
Imagine! That would be AMAZING. But it’d need to be for more than one ep. These two and their relationship is easily one of the things I love most about this show.
“3. “AC/DC and Motorhead?? You’re Sudanese!” – Quol I heart you like no other.”
Kid has good taste in music.
“5. Oh there we go. The stupid, stupid wife. I want to like her but i just can’t. She’s stupid.”
Hmmm I don’t think you guys are gonna like my thoughts on wifey…
“10. Sorry Grace, I’m digging Miranda on this rewatch.”
Maybe she can tie her hair up. I mean your at work, mate. Have some professionalism in relation to your appearance.
Ess! I remembered to make notes this time!
1. Kuol. After Dr Andy, easily my favourite character.
2. Ohhh now I remember who the Detective Lady is! Le Biatch!
3. Show makes me think about the American Healthcare system, which makes me a bit sad.
4. Andy to heart attack dude: “I’m gonna dance at your wedding, pal.” FK you CBS. FK YOU. Because this is soooo what episode 21 was going to be about and now we’ll never see Alex dance.
5. Le Biatch rejects the idea of couples counselling/her time is too important for her to reply to a text. Nice.
6. “Coagulate.” I don’t even know what that means but I love it. I am a truly shallow person. I beg for your forgiveness.
7. I love that Dr Andy holds the fiance when he reassures her her fella won’t die.
8. They told heart attack dude he wasn’t gonna make it? Really? REALLY?! I’m sorry I don’t think it’s wise to tell a patient they are going to DIE especially when they will have surgery that could save their life!
9. AIDS. How we treated people with that disease was totally FRAKKED.
10. Awwwww, Andy has a photo of him and Le Biatch on his desk. I love him. Frak off Le Biatch.
11. Ess, why do all the doctors wear different coloured scrubs???
12. This ep has a couple of good messages:
a) Never assume. If a person is being hostile, there can be underlying factors. Talk to them (if you can).
(I’m getting on my soap box, kindly skip the following if this bothers you, proceed to point 13. Thank you)
b) Same $ex couples need to have the same rights as hetro$exual couples because not allowing someone to be with the person they love when they are dying is just FRAKKED!
13. What charity is represented by the green wrist band? Anyone? I know yellow is generally Lance Armstrongs charity….
14. “Ladies first.” FLR!
“I’m working on not interrupting you.” FLR (this time written three times larger than the first FLR).
15. Le Biatch doesn’t want to have kids with Dr Andy. Don’t hate me, but I understand her. She’s committed to her job and she doesn’t want to leave it, so is he. Good on her for realising bringing kids into the world when both parents put the job first isn’t the greatest idea. Having said that, I still hate what you are doing to him. BECAUSE LOOK AT THAT FACE!
16. Kuol “but then I would be alone.” AWWWWW GOSH don’t you start!
17. “Let the rock gods sooth your soul.” Indeed. Indeed.
3. Show makes me think about the American Healthcare system, which makes me a bit sad.
Ohhhh Infant. I agree. And I work in healthcare (the payment side, always the bad guys on TV shows). It is sad. It is… in your words… a frakked up system.
ACA with your 12. ACA!!! And it is actually amazing how much has changed in the last 3-4 years since this ep originally aired, things have gotten better in a lot of places. Not to say things are how they should be, of course, but especially in hospitals and other care facilities, visitation rules have been clarified so any person’s partner can visit regardless of their legal relationship status.
15-17. Andy’s face is still making me sad, just thinking about it now.
3. Steph, show got me thinking about what happens to the people who get sick and can’t afford healthcare. Do they just go untreated and die? Or what about those who have something horrific happen to them, get rushed to hospital, saved and then lumped with huge medical bills they can’t pay?
13. Well I am glad to hear some things have changed. Because that made me mad and I dwelled on it for the whole hour before I went to bed….and then also dwelled on whether or not I should have said anything here….
Reply to Infant”
3. Non-privatized hospitals can’t turn away people who don’t have insurance. They are required to give them basic healthcare at the last. Also, doctors are required by the Hippocratic Oath to take action once they know someone is in medical danger. Convo with my NotDr.Andy at my consult: “I don’t care what ins you have or if you have insurance, I’ve seen your MRI and I’m obligated to take care of you. I’d tell you to go to the ER if I had to sneak you in that way, I’d do it. Whatever it took.” Also I have no idea why we even had that convo, I think it was a hypothetical scenario we were discussing due to the asshat previous surgeon I saw…
As for huge medical bills, most will work with the patient’s to help them get financial assistance from the state (medicaid or disability) if they’re non-covered. In some cases, like our organization, if they still don’t meet criteria for state assistance, we have internal funding to assist patients as well. Providing care at a discount of 30-100% depending on circumstances.
Thanks for all that.
Three Rivers, making us have all these deep and meaningful conversations.
Go show go!
For all that show lacked, it really excelled in this respect.
“And I work in healthcare (the payment side)” – and yet we get along.
obvi we never discuss work. heh
Ha, so true, Ess.
Infant, you may have seen on US tv shows, sometimes a character is denied medical coverage by their insurance company (this is usually in a drama, and they end up dead) or they will crack a joke about something “not being covered by my HMO” (usually a comedy, not always). HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization and is a type of health insurance coverage in the USA that has a reputation for being very restrictive and not paying for needed procedures (of course some of this rep is deserved, some is exaggerated) but that is the type of company I work for.
ACA with everything Ess said about hospitals (and doctors) providing charity/discounted care when needed – this is a very admirable thing and saves a lot of lives. However, that being said, yes, some people just go untreated and die. If they never got a checkup because they couldn’t afford a doctor’s visit then get so sick they do go but by then it’s too late to do anything… This is the point where I launch into a very long political rant. So I’ll just stop here. America needs to get its sh/t together when it comes to healthcare.
Steph, some times it feelsl like on American tv shows there is always some character who is denied medical coverage by their insurance company. As someone who has nothing to do with your healthcare system, it doesn’t paint a very nice picture. Evil producers going for dramatic effect. Also, all we tend to hear about the American health care system is how frakked up it is.
I’ve also read The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama which touched on the American health care system and I remember being horrified when I read it. I’m not saying our system is perfect and fortunately I haven’t had much to do with it and Westy may be able to confirm or deny but our system doesn’t sound nearly as bad off as the American one…. to be fair though we are pushed towards private health cover so there’s potentially more money floating around and we also don’t have as big a population.
For all that might be wrong with this country (JULIA, I’m looking at you!) I think our health care system is pretty good. Not as good as England or Canada’s, but if you have a life threatening medical problem, you will be taken care of at no cost. Eg, my brother had a double lung transplant, spent around six month’s in ICU, a couple more months in general ward, then had home help when he was released. He paid nothing.
Another example, a couple of years ago I took my son to the ER for an elevated heart rate. After about three hours, they decided to transfer him to a bigger hospital by ambulance. He was there overnight and discharged the next day at 10am. We never saw a bill. I had a friend in the US who, around the same time, went to the ER for intense pain. After a few hours of tests, she was told she had kidney stones, was given medication and sent home. That visit to the ER cost her $3000.
If you don’t have private health insurance (which is still cheap compared to the US), and have a life threatening problem, you’ll be looked after. If, however, you need say a hip or knee replacement and have no private insurance, you can wait a couple of years to have it done at a public hospital.
Admittedly, we do pay around 1.5% of our taxable income as a Medicare levy, which goes to pay public hospital costs. My own private health insurance (2 adults, 2 adult children – who can remain on my policy until they are 25) costs me around $2500 per year. If we are admitted to hospital in any calendar year, we pay a deductible of $500 – even if we all go in the same year, it’s still only a one-off payment.
And, even though we have private health insurance, we have the option to attend a public hospital free.
*that ends today’s lesson on the the health care system in Australia*
reply to Infant’s Notes:
He wore it off screen too sometimes.
1. Kwol, Qwol, Kuol, Quol, I love all 4 of him. Fiercely.
3. Preaching to the choir, mate..
4. FU CBS
6. coagulate – can’t remember how they used the term but its what happens when blood clots up to prevent further bleeding. That’s a very poor definition. lol But someone who’s blood doesn’t clot can bleed to death within minutes. You can stitch the skin up but they wil continue to bleed internally until it clots. Conversely, if a patient ‘throws a clot’ during surgery, it can lead to a stroke. Which is why they give anti-clotting meds to patients for some surgeries that are prone to that type of activity. I hope all that makes sense. lol
7. Dr Andy…F.L.R.
11. In some hospitals the color scrubs indicate your specialty or role in the O.R.. Blue=surgeon, green=anesthesia. And in some hospitals it’s simply doctors choice.
12. A-Men
13. I think Alex said the green wristband was for Organ Donation.
15. AGreed…to a degree. Still, there is really no perfect relationship and/or time to have kids. Each set of parents has its own built in issues. Also for her, it was really more about Andy than her, I think, because she was wishy washy about having kids with someone else. And how can you say no to that face? he damn near made Steph cry! damn him.
16. Like we needed another face to break our hearts. Stop it Kuol!!
1. I know we IMDB-ed it and looked up how to spell his name, but I can’t remember so I’ll just spell it differently every time I write it. :p
6. It did make sense.
Thanks!
11. Ah see in Greys (yes yes I watch it, sue me
) they all have the same as it’s by speciality so it confused me. What are our thoughts on the pale blue ones he wears some times??? I was watching h50 before and Steve had his black cargos and tan shoes on and I thought, does he look bad in anything…ever??? If he wore a paper bag would we still go asdfghjkl?
13. Alex. Stop being so awesome. No don’t. I love that he is so philanthropic. If he just started buying Maseratis left right and centre and stopped doing this sorta stuff I’d totes disown him.
15. Don’t get me wrong, she is still going to be called Le Biatch by me.
I was just saying I could see where she was coming from, but really did she have to say she’d have kids with some other guy? Harsh lady. HARSH.
Maybe Andy has 12 toes & a tail. That might be a reason to not want to procreate with him?
12 toes and a tail. LMAO!! Oh that reminds me of one of my fave X-Files episodes. The shapeshifter with the tail.
response to Grace #5
Also that I used to think Alex was a winter for coloring but I now believe he’s a summer. He absolutely glows in the paler colors.
11. “What are our thoughts on the pale blue ones he wears some times??? ” – adfjas;dlfka;dfkja;dfka;dffdf!!! that’s my thoughts.
15. I saw Le Biatch today in an old episode of Criminal Minds. Would have been about 2 yrs before 3Rivers. She looked youuuuuung. And I still called her a biatch.
I agree he probably is a “summer”. On a page of comments for the dead deep sea diver “hand”, I said they shouldn’t put him in khaki. Some were willing to overlook how that color washes him out because it was a uniform, but I still don’t like it. And I dislike him in orange, too. Neither are colors a summer should wear. IMO.
BTW, Ess, the shirt in this week’s “hump day” picture always comes up orange on my computer, no matter the source. It could be the computer, or I may be color blind!
I have no idea what either of you just said. All I know is when my friend Melinda announced my bridesmaids dress was going to be pale yellow I flat out told her heck no! Beyond that….Look I wear coloured sneakers that are never the same colour as my handbag lol do you think I understand colours?
Ok. I am gonna try to watch w/ y’all, got a breather at work and I love Dr. Andy. But Holy Jeez, you raise the bar, Girlfriends! You make NOTES? You name color schemes after seasons and assign one to Alex? And you have some code where F.L.R. has some meaning? I got nothing. Excepting in regards to Andy and kuol, I will merely observe that Alex does bromance like no other. Like NO other! Kuol here, yeah. Josev in Moonlight. And of course Danno now. Well hopefully now. Assuming he has not totes dropt off the face of the Earth, poor baby.
Join us. Resistance is futile.
I am pretty sure we make notes because I kept forgetting what I wanted to say so I started writing things down so I had something to say once I got here.
I have no idea about the colour system the others have going. Except now I wonder when I get dressed if colours suit me or not.
FLR stands for fking life ruiner. In the sense that Alex/Steve/Mick/Andy has ruined us or will ruin all other men for us.
Ah ha! Well that makes total sense!!! He is a F.L.R. God love him.
Still, the note taking. Not my best school trick. Maybe I’ll just respond to y’all’s? :/
Whichever you prefer. We try to come back and comment anyway. Post away mate.
GNP are you with us yet? I don’t want to miss your comments!
Here you go… Learn which season you are!

I have no idea if my hair is warm or cold. I suck at being a girl.
Actually forget that one this ones better.

Infant, is this how you feel?

Hope this liik works.
LMAO! That’s pretty much it.
Episode 6 “where we lie”
1. My Not Andy won’t ride carnival rides for exactly this reason. Gave up going to fairs and carnivals when we got married.
2. Amber really won me over in this episode. She’s a good actress.
3. The “we can’t get a VAD for Quol” scene…I forgot to take notes I was so wrapped up in it! Such a great scene.
4. I double think things every time I take Tylenol after this episode. Never bothered me before.
5. Qwol you are breaking my heart! Ugh. Why haven’t we seen this guy again? He’s so amazing!
6. Alex carrying the boy out of the CT machine. Ugh.FLR.
7. Dr. Lee schmoozing the sales rep. Hot. And everyone was happy in the end.
8. Check please!
9. I know ppl hate on the plot line with Alfe’s char nd Miranda but I didn’t mind it since I didn’t really watch that ‘other’ medical show. Besides…shows of the same settings are invariably going to be similar. Especially when its something that really happens all the time. I like that Alfre owned up and I understand Miranda’s attitude too. Too bad we never got to see this play out.
10. Oh hello chest hair! (VAD scene) jeez, that whole thing goes in the chest cavity? Always amazes me…
11. Ooh Alex hug! I would throw my mother under a bus for one of those hugs. Does that make me a bad person?
12. Amber and Alex had mad chemistry. I’m sad they broke up. lol. Like my opinion matters…
13. The end when Alex says, “oh its you” to Dr.lee and he responds, “you know how to make a guy feel special”. Love these two. I regret they really didn’t spend a lot of time together. Andy was mostly with the pt and Quol. Maybe in S2 they would have developed it more. Jesus those 2 together would be dangerous..
14. FU CBS
ESS (2) I went into the show with very low expectations of Amber’s abilities (never saw her in anything else) and what a nice surprise she was. I really think she did a great job.
(12) Alex looked like a manlier man(if that is posible) and happy to me on photo’s I have seen with her – it always seems as he was wrapping her up and protecting her (any girls dream!)
(12) i love the way you put that. I hate him. Life Ruiner.
Ok I forgot to make notes. How do you forget to make notes I dunno, but I did, so I’m just replying to yours Ess.
“1. My Not Andy won’t ride carnival rides for exactly this reason. Gave up going to fairs and carnivals when we got married.”
I guess we call them Royal Shows here, but they totes freak me out too. How they are dismantled and built again the next town over two weeks later. It’s just not right!
“6. Alex carrying the boy out of the CT machine. Ugh.FLR.”
It’s him with kids. It has this power over well me (and you). Scientists should study it because if they ever figured out why it’s so amazing they could make MILLIONS.
I just watched eps 5 and 6.
I didn’t take notes, all I can say for both eps is Dr Andy’s faaaaaaaaaace!
Except to add, I laughed so hard at Dr Lee discussing the VAD reps VAD with her.
‘Your VAD is amazing’
‘Oh it’s unique’
Hopefully the link works. It is Amber’s screen test, with Alex, for her Dr. Lisa role. The chemistry was off the hook! Then again, who doesn’t have chemistry with him?
Thanks for the link GNP.
I had no idea she was Australian!
Episode 7 “Luckiest Man”
This episode touches all my hot buttons and its nearly perfect to me. I was so wrapped up that I kept forgetting to take notes. the few I took were mostly profound statements or feelings.
1. Quol I love you so much. Like real love. Not fake love. What an amazing person you are with your whole attitude. I’d say you are true good to be true but there really are a few good people like you in the world. Just not enough.
2. Quol, “If I die tomorrow or I live 400 years, I’ve lived a beautiful life.” Yes you have. Yes you have.
3. The scene with all the doctors deciding whether to allow Victor to remove his life support. So.much.perfection. Dr. Andy, though I disagree with you, I once again have to love your love and fiestiness for your patients. This scene is so true to life and so well acted. I agree with Alfre, they could have discussed it till they were blue in the face and never would have all agreed. This is one of the rare scenes where we see Dr. Andy really get mad. Not McG hot but almost.
4. Miranda telling Dr. lee he was wrong to ask Victor for the lungs. Sorry Miranda. I think its a rough call but ultimately the right one.
My personal thought on the ethical dilemma for this episode is that the patient does have a right to refuse care. They seek care in good faith, they have a right to refuse it. To take that away from them for ANY reason is to put yourself as God, as Alfre said to Andy. Where do you draw the line? Who draws the line? Yes it is against the Hippocratic Oath to “do no harm”. But nothing is guaranteed in medicine….anything is a possibility of doing harm. Patients should have a right to decide.
That scene with Andy and Victor….and Victor telling him that he was going to kick ALS’ ass one last time. Ugh…perfection doesn’t come close. Mandy Patinkin’s acting and Alex’s response. No words.
This episode brings home why Alex loved this show so much and felt it was so important.

Episode 7.
Second time around, still made me teary. And I need to establish I am not a person who cries. I have cried only twice (real full blown, I need a box of tissues, emo tears) over the passed 17 months.
Episodes like this make me wonder why show got cancelled (or was show too much for viewers who use TV to escape not have massive moral and ethical debates?). This is probably one of the most moving episodes of television I have ever seen. And I have seen A LOT of television.
I too had to disagree with Andy here. I understand that now medicine is all about keeping people alive but at what cost? You have to look at the quality of life the person is going to have. And in this case, for Victor, keeping him alive was a death sentence. Having said that I couldn’t (and don’t want to) imagine how horrific it must have been for his daughter to have had that last conversation knowing it was the last time she would see her father alive. I just can’t even go there or else I’ll end up more emotionally drained than I am now.
Quol. OHHHHH How my heart broke when we found out he was running a fever and they couldn’t operate. And when he said he’d lived a beautful life ughhhhh. I don’t have the capacity in me to be that hopeful and optomistic a person. If there were more Khol’s in the world, it’d be a better place. And where the heck is this kid because he needs to be acting on a show!
Oh btw, FK U CBS.
I can think of several reasons that lead to show being cancelled.
1. Bad scheduling – Sunday night viewing on CBS which is bad any time but in the fall it’s constantly pre-empted and moved due to Sunday night football. That’s complicated for a new show.
2. Alex was known but not “known”, show would probably have better chances now. But still iffy because of #1.
3. We’ve all agreed. The pilot was a bore. While I eventually fell in love with most characters, it was too slow to really make us care about anyone but Andy and Quol.
4. It’s a a very different medical show and yes, I think the underlying serious/ethical debates of the show is not to the taste of people who prefer medical shows like that other one that makes me want to gouge my eyes out. And I dare say that show was probably hitting it’s prime about the time this one was intro’d and they were just too very different for the ADD TV watching public.
The combination of #1 & #4 doomed this show. Lawrence Oliver could have come back from the dead and starred as Dr Andy across from Kathleen Hepburn as Miranda Audrey Hepburn as Lisa and Sidney Potier as Quol and it wouldn’t have mattered this show… was… just.. doooooomed.
Americans (usually) watch network tv to be entertained (by which we mean “not think”). This show was too thoughtful, too slow, too consistently sad. (too nothing like H50…)
Ep.7….(randomly inserted months later of course) Kuol cannot catch a break which I did not see coming …life is full of surprises to me. Unlike you, Grace, I cry when people tell me they cried or know someone who did. not on purpose, tears just flow it or at least ‘well up’ but my friends know how I am and just wait it out till it passes. So, they were very much ‘welling’ at the end of this episode. It reminded me of the last Desperate Housewives except the people lining Wisteria lane were all dead and, ironically, the people lining the corridor would be alive thanks to a donation. I would have to be on the side of people making their own choices about their own care. Think how torturous it would be to want to get out of that situation and people ‘won’t let’ you. So yes, Dr. Andy
might think he has his patient’s interest at heart but like the daughter, is thinking of himself in some way. It might seem heartless to line up for organs, but unless a person is in that sitch who knows what we would really do? And at that point, the character wanted to donate and wanted to help so it was a win win. All I know, is I found myself breathing pretty deeply when Mandy was doing his scenes felt like I could not get my breath either.
Now, here is a point that won’t win me any fans but could inspire debate…no one that weak and ill should be driving a vehicle – especially if their fingertips are all that can hold the wheel. And making a phone call to boot? They are a danger to themselves and others…Personal freedom and independence should not come at a cost to others. Driving is a privilege not a right and the privilege should be reserved for those who can perform the task at a reasonable level including reaction time. Discuss
Lastly, Steph thanks and ACA for your defense of West Virginia way back up the page. that is exactly what I thought when I watched it. It would take longer to get to the helipad, fly, land , etc than to hop in an ambulance and zip right on down. Plus all the other stuff you said too.
This episode gives me cold chills, just thinking about it. Most thought provoking bit of medical drama I have ever seen – together with outstanding acting!! Bravo, Mandy & Alex, Bravo!!
Above comment was meant as respose to ESS on Episode 7

There are so many ambiguities in modern medicine. This episode spotlit that truism. I think it was so cool that they placed Andy on the side of the argument that, most likely, most viewers would disagree with. The ending, although sort of supernatural-ly, was also amazingly calm, spiritually calm. The scene, with Andy backlit by that “heavenly” OR light, having run the gauntlet as he pushed Mandy, oh wow. Definitely a big idea show. Although I admit I mostly loved it because Dr. Andy was both sexy and incredibly emotionally endearing.
“There are so many ambiguities in modern medicine.: – ACA xBL2I&B!!! Show did a wonderful job at spotlighting it. Unfortunately, most people don’t really care…until it happens to them.
Another thing we can agree on… that we see every day in our jobs & our own lives… can’t ever take your health for granted.
I thought maybe I could comment about ep7 but I don’t think so.
THREE RIVERS EPISODE 8: THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS (title used ironically, I think!!!)
a. we open on a creepy situation where a sketchy old dude stops to help a teen girl change a flat tire – there is a sudden turn of events and sketchy dude ends up being brain dead… it was a very long set up… and then it turns out he has cancer & can’t donate the needed organ anyway. So that kind of felt like a waste to me. Shocking violence for no other purpose than to be shocking & violent. Anyway.
b.
Bill & MelindaJohn & Tracy are billionaires so get themselves from SF to 3R overnight in a move that totally confused me. Also, I’m sure that was the best use of time while her liver was failing.c. A million LOLs for Kwol specifically pointing out that Dr Yablonski’s face is responsible for raising the money for his transplant. Kwol must be an undercover sardonic. Dr Andy’s face makes everything better!
d. the camera work where John the Billionaire and Dr Jordan debate how best to handle Tracy’s situation now that she can’t have sketchy guy’s liver is …. ridiculous. How many times do we circle them? And so quickly, too. I was kind of sea sick.
e. OMG OMG OMG POPPA MCG! I guess now if anyone needs some H50 alternate universe screencaps where Poppa McG lives & he & McG go out for a beer, we know where to go to get those! LOL, I love it.
f. Andy was Oliver Twist & Poppa McG was his Artful Dodger!
g. LOL, has this show ever done a “Two Weeks Later” before? we’re lucky if this show lets us leave the scene for two minutes let alone two weeks!
h. HOLY SWEET MOTHER OF WHAT did they do to Tracy?? I’m sure somewhere in Switzerland a transplant doctor is going “Heyyyy!” But I guess this is the Moral Ambiguity Portion of the episode so now we can debate to what lengths we would go to save a loved one if money were no obstacle. I say John Billionaire went too far, because what he did violated Tracy’s moral code. Though, she lived & they reconciled, so I guess no harm done, right? Hmm.
i. OH PAM. “She’s a hypocrite, we shouldn’t treat her” ??? Really Pam. Give me a break. The second Dr J said “Chinese liver” the audience knew that John Billionaire had done it without Tracy’s knowledge. Disappointed that Pam would assume the worst of Tracy.
j. Kwol, Andy & Ryan chat & Andy makes the connection that his med school money is now paying for Kwol’s transplant… dun dun dun…
k. Meth is bad! No moral ambiguity there.
l. “I gotta see a guy about a thing.” CLASSIC. Oh, what we all wouldn’t say to avoid hanging out with Miranda.
I kid, I kid!
m. Glad John & Tracy and Nick & Beth all made up. Happyyy ending.
n. Andy & Poppa Artful Dodger talk about the donation. Not sure what favor PAD thinks he can buy/bribe/coerce from Andy that’s worth more than $130 large, but who knows. Andy wanted to be free of this guy & he’s not, and I guess that’s what PAD wanted. I’m guessing this plot arc is never fully resolved. (don’t tell me)
As a first time watcher, this episode was kind of confusing to me in a general sense. Of course this show suffers from episodes being aired all out of order and storylines re-written to accommodate. It’s been weird having … Lisa(?) appear & disappear from episodes in no particular order, we were really building up the Lisa/Andy relationship & it’s odd to have none of her here (not sure where she would have fit but still). Also no reference to the Miranda/Dr Jordan dispute over which one of them Miranda’s Dad loved more… but I thought the actress who played Tracy & the actress who played Beth (What is she from her face is so familiar) were both really good. So I enjoyed watching this episode but mostly because it had a somewhat happy ending and the performances were solid and we got a little Kwol and the Poppa Artful Dodger casting makes me smile. Not a standout ep, but a nice one.
Ok Steph, great recap, just watched and must reply.
First, on your a. – to the roadside set up, that could have been handled so much better if all we needed was a useless organ and I know I was left wondering how the young couple would fit in later. – and the answer is #notatall
Yep, on your b. – we are calling 911 and immediately after we are in a hospital clear across the country! If I were not reading your notes while watching I would have been sure I missed a scene.
Yes on c., d., e., f.,and g. – I could not believe after the overnight cross country trip we are on a ” two weeks later”. No consistency.
Skipping down to j., l look forward to Quol getting a heart and getting out of this hospital, even though I would miss him.
There is a lot of meandering in this episode. We are in several cities, and making big statements about buying organs and drugs and roadside criminals, too much. On the plus side, AOL really looks great in all scenes, I could totally see hanging out with him a that bar, or any other. If his faaaace can’t raise money for a cause, then nothing would.
I just watched H5-0, Episode 2:20 – the roadside set up there, reminded me a lot of this episode……
Steph’s(e)….this is where I knew for sure, Poppa McG would never come back from the dead…..I know it is possible in real life for a father to be shorter than his son, but the 10cm difference in height between Willam Sadler and Alex in present day H5-0, would just look too odd.
Oh yay! I watched this one! And your recap is awesome!
A. I did not care for the opener, because one figures early in the life of this show that half of the opener cast is gunna die, and half will guest star, but I find it hard to care. I’m waiting for the Andy. And they all seem to suck up too much time from the true cast. I must say I think 5-0 does a better job setting up the story du jour QUICKLY and on to the pretty people!
B. I hated these particular one-percenters. Even real rich people aren’t this smarmy.
C. Good call on Kuol’s deft perception of the power of the faaaace!
E. I read, somewhere, that Alex got McDaddy the gig after working with him in TR. Definitely interesting chemistry, though they never appear together on screen on 5-0!
F. I LOVED the scene in the bar! Finally a peak into Andy’s backstory. Too tiny, too late, but so awesome! And I loved the scene of him running back in the hospital halls to meet Miranda. Andy had such a different physical presence to McG. Still athletic and gorgeous, but somehow different. Andy seems a more buoyant person somehow, like he’s already conquered his demons. Even once Uncle Fagan here shows up.
I. I agree. Though that whole story grossed me out.
J. Dun dun dun! Yep. Poor Andy. You’re stuck with family.
K. Notice the couple are Nick and Beth? Kinda Moonlighty.
There were just some odd directorial decisions in this epi, but the Andy backstory peeks, and anytime he’s around Kuol’s, made it all well worth the watch for me.
http://s1179.photobucket.com/albums/x393/paulapaavali/?action=view¤t=grow-hair.gif just for the rest of the fans who are not on twitter to enjoy Alex in scrubs… hope the link works
Thanks for the link Paula. Any chance there is a link to the actual interview? Tried searching but no luck so far.
http://alexoloughlinvideos.com/videos/129/three-rivers-were-not-doctors-2009 try this one. Seems like many missed this little gem. Here I was thinking everyone else has already seen everything
And that is why I love and am devoted to the FUCUPs! They always have all the answers. Thanks so much, Paula.
Here´s a link to my tumblr blog with the collage I made from that interview. I love it when gets silly like this, it doesn´t happen so much anymore when doing interviews for H50. http://neropatti.tumblr.com/post/22338059901/our-favorite-heart-surgeon-talking-about-his-pecs
Karin, it’s time for you to get on to twitter too!! You are missing out on a lot of FUCUP fun…….
Just started the next one, Miranda’s hair looked really nice all last ep, and opening scene it’s awful!
Ok, I see ya’ll have given up on the Dr. Andy show. The
Is Win or Loss ep. Featured good scruff and blue scrubs that
Looked much better on the good doc than all the others standing around in them. And finally, we see that you *can’t win them all*. I suppose they want us to see who donors are and how it comes to be,, but for the show purposes, the beginning always feels like or is the question of who will die? It’s just too depressing.
I like that Ryan did such a great job getting them off the island, and it seemed very lame the other docs were just driving away empty handed so fast. Like they were afraid more of the storm than for their dying patients. I’ve determined that dr. Andy does not have to go get organs….organs come to dr. Andy.
Stereotypes du jour….southern closed minded woman and b ball player with drug background and nothing but b ball to live for. Really glad the agent was a good guy and so was the uncle who showed up so we got a few anti-stereotypes. Shame to see a good pair of lungs go to waste, though.
This episode with the blue scrubs, was the original pilot that was filmed months before all the others. It was redone without the “original” actors and dished up as episode 8 – from there the different look to hair and clothes. Rest of the series, they are back to “normal” again…..
Oh, This is the episode where I was like? Huh???? Did I miss something? Like – did I miss where the hospital got all mod looking with glass corner rooms and now everyone looks all done up and hip – and Miranda’s hair looks different, but still is way too all over the place.
It was like stepping into an alternate universe!
Just watched Win-Loss & I totally see how it was a “pilot ep” type. Very back to Transplant 101 with the bride’s family which, wow, so sad. I can see how “gunned down on your wedding day” was just too much of a bummer for a pilot ep, and yes, all the stereotypes were a little much, too.
Miranda’s hair was kind of a hot mess but I think it looked good on her and matched her personality anyway, a little rough around the edges. I don’t get why the camera/Andy’s view lingered on her neck tatts though was that still part of the “pilot scripting” like Andy & Miranda were supposed to be an item potentially maybe?
And I really did like Miranda’s reunion with the doctor she accidentally punched in West Virginia. That was well done.
ACA Ryan was the hero of the ep, for sure.
I don’t get why the camera/Andy’s view lingered on her neck tatts though was that still part of the “pilot scripting” like Andy & Miranda were supposed to be an item potentially maybe?
I think even the ending would suggest that as well…where they were standing next to the river discussing the day. Remember, there was no Dr Lisa around.
And I really did like Miranda’s reunion with the doctor she accidentally punched in West Virginia. That was well done.
I think so too……
Thanks for the clarica – makes sense and I probably saw that above somewhere but forgot.
Daisy chain episode, so we get to Andy in a new hat, literally, and it put me in the mind of McG’s dress uniform hat, not as nice of course. I’d like to know how my son would have a heart transplant and I would never have met the doctor even once, I found that hard to believe. And way up top in previous comments It was said the very last scene was weird and def, agree. The very last scene could have been the hand hold in the hospital, and we could have segued into more action next time. The near end was heartbreaking and that just ruined it. There are two reasons to write it that way. One is a male writer said lets just go for it and get Andy some action, or two is Amber went and pleaded on behalf of her character that is how it should go – and I say go Amber, who here would not say the same? But, really for the show it seemed rushed.
As to the daisy chain itself, only someone in that position would ever really know how they would decide. I found myself thinking if one could pull out, any could be in the same position and have an organ become available and pull out, too. I guess everyone goes under the knife at the same time in the same place to be sure it all works out.
As to dr. Andy as admin., he sucks. If he really believed in not changing a major hospital policy in her absence, he should have made a much stronger case, or laid down the law. I would think you can’t over rule it so easily with just a vote like that. Not much of a policy it seems to me. dr. Andy as a doctor, still rocks though. I’d let him perform whatever exam was necessary ….or unnecessary.
FOYeur? Comments? Still with me?
I think these episodes were made as an afterthought, after Three Rivers was already cancelled. It was done, just to get some of the real life situations of transplants out there as part of the series, espesially “live” donation.
So for me it was spot on….)
In the series we see people admitted and getting organs within hours or days, but in real life it normally take months and years for someone to get an organ, espesially with kidneys. I think that Daisy chains are rare and even more rare for someone to get a match while they are already part of it. People get so desperate to help their loved ones and it becomes a real option in the end.
I personally think that if people are commited to the chain, they should be removed from the list, to rule out confusion about it….there is just to many people involved.
As far as Dr. Lisa & Dr Andy is concerned….I think they should have “done it” on the episode with the little boy and the shoes already!! (they already did the hand holding/hugging thing in that episode….and action was needed here
I think there was really something special going between Andy and Lisa. He just didn’t act on it because he still loved his wife. He only acted on it after his wife made it clear that there is no hope at all!
Even his wife’s reaction the first time she saw the two of them together, suggested that she saw the connection too.
Thanks so much for weighing in, as I am not as thorough a watcher I need your details. I forgot even what Lisa did when she was in before, appreciate the reminder of the little boy and the shoes. I know people can wait for years for a transplant, but understand that won’t make for good tv. It does make sense that if someone were on a chain, they would be off a list, but real life is not a tv show. I don’t remember much about the one the wife was in, but do understand that it’s been pretty clear there’s no marriage there anymore, so I get he is ready to move on. I ‘m hopelessly old fashioned on things, it’s probably a miracle I even have children myself (haha). Thanks FOYeur, for playing in the 3r’s sandbox with me.
OK, so I claim to be an Alex fan but have never seen TR as it wasn’t shown here in Oz. It’s just being shown now, at some ridiculously late time but at least now I can watch it. Have recorded the first four eps that have been shown and last night my daughter and I sat down to watch the first three. Said daughter loves it but then she’s only 11 and she found the transplant stuff interesting. And she shares my Alex crush so she’s all OK with watching something just for him (and yes, agree with above postings that he looks hot in this show!). OK, so I am trying to like it for Alex’s sake and perhaps it gets better but I’m not sold. Think the transplant stuff IS interesting but the stories are a tad predictable and pedestrian. That female doctor (can’t remember her name) reminds me too much of Kristen Stewart for some reason (said daughter agrees) and as someone has already said, as much as I love Alfre, that she overacted in this one. Still, will watch it all the way through just to satisfy my curiosity. If I wait long enough, will Andy turn up for work in cargo pants waving a gun around?
I loved show from beginning to end. Warts and all. But I’d much rather see him really act than wave a gun around.
Would much rather see Alex act than wave a gun around, too, ESS, and I am certainly enjoying Andy but the show itself doesn’t really grab me. I’m only up to the fourth episode, though. Still think the transplant stuff is interesting and I like the less BAMF-like Alex. I’m a bit of a sucker for medical shows, too (was a long time ER fan and also watched Chicago Hope) but never got into Grey’s. Iactually like the interconnectedness of the stories and it certainly makes you think about one life ending and another beginning. Good stuff to chat to my daughter about while we’re watching.
Yes, sorry, no guns or cargos. But somewhere he does do a v v sexy leather jacket. And serious, break your heart acting in Episode 5 (my favorite).
Now for the important question … where do you stand on The Oyster Farmer?
Great, thanks Karin, will wait for ep 5 then, which will be on Oz tv next week. Great form, Oz tv, finally showing the series. Now make sure we get S3 of H50! As for TOF, loved the early Alex stuff, just like I loved Mary Bryant. My mother reckons TOF is too ‘weird’ and depressing but it’s kind of typically Aussie. To me it’s charming and rich and visually stunning (and not just for AoL!) and all that’s good about Australian movies. I’m also a bit partial to Diana Glenn as an actress and have liked in her in TV stuff she’s done here in Oz. So where you do stand then?
Love TOF, Andrea. As you said, besides the beautiful AOL, the scenery is breathtaking. Would love to go on a fishing trip on that river! Enjoy TR Episode 5 and let me know what you think.
Hi, Karin, have watched ep 5 and really enjoyed it. I liked the story about the liver transplan recipient who was portrayed as being somewhat undeserving of the transplant as he was so mean to everyone. It followed on nicely from the previous episode (or the one before it?) with the young drug addict. The series is growing on me but I am not sure if I am biased because Alex is in it
I still don’t think it’s a brilliant series but it am enjoying watching it. I think that’s partly because my 11 year old daughter and I are watching it together and she’s enjoying it (she loves Alex, too!) and she’s learning lots about organ donations. Am looking forward to ep 7 which should be on next week as I think that’s the one with Mandy Patinkin which everyone says is the best ep. I do agree that Alex did a great job in ep 5 and I am enjoying seeing him in a non-action role. As for the wife not wanting Dr Andy – is she nuts???
As an aside, I’ve been in to JB HiFi and have ordered a copy of TOF as it’s been ages since I have seen it. Guy who served me said it will come in any time between now and 2015 – everyone’s a comedian! Hopefully I’ll get it in the next month or and and will rewatch and let you know what I think.
Sadly, it didn’t get any better and the cargoes and thigh holsters never showed up. I still have yet to watch the last few. He sure looks good in it, though.
Sure does, cvc! Shame that he had to go through two cancelled shows. For better or worse he’s in a hit show now and hopefully this season will give him the chance to do more than wave a gun around and look good in cargo pants, plus theopportunities being on a hit show should bring. We all know what he is capable of and I hope he gets the chance to showcase his talent (as well as his body!) to the world.
